Pure speculation here but are the focusing magnets/coils better able to handle certain raster shapes/geometries and thus produce a sharper image (with lenses taken out of the equation)? For example would they handle a curved raster better than a rectangular one?

Raster shape & sharpness correlation?

Raster SIZE and sharpness correlation, for sure, especially on NEC's. Why do you think NEC recommended throw distances which put the raster small and in the middle of the tubes ?

Take a crt with no electronic astig, would that machine have better corner focus if it ran a curved raster versus a rectanglular one? Obviously electronic astig. improves focus greatly. But are crt's "naturally" better with certain raster geometries? That is my question. :)
