Thanks for the heads up. I was looking on the Coming Soon link under movies. My wife and I are looking forward to both movies on HD DVD!

What's weird is the website is on top of movies like Babel, The Departed and Hollywoodland (recent releases) and put them in available now. But, they have Black Rain and The Polar Express parked in Coming Soon. Did they forget they released it or something? :D

Oh flags is good. Wonderful adaption from the book. It's very hard to describe the story. I mean you've got a son learning about his father, and your seeing that story, but you've also got the stories of the other main characters, the global history behind everything, and it really carries on far beyond the war to really tell you what happened to each man after the war ended. Loved the way it was shot. It's a bit boring, but it's a really good film. Don't expect to see a lot of battle scenes. I will definitely buy this one. Clint Eastwood is my favorite actor and filmmaker of all time.

I am definitely looking forward to both of these movies in HD. Maybe this will prompt Warner (or whoever is responsible for home distribution) to prep Letters from Iwo Jima as well.

Letters from Iwo Jimma and Flags Of Our Fathers were both DreamWorks/Warner Bros. co-productions. DreamWorks has the home video rights to both.

DreamWorks is finally entering the hi-def arena and releasing these movies on both formats for a retail price of $39.99. "Dreamgirls" has a release date of 5/1 right now, with "Flags Of Our Fathers" set to be released a little later to conincide with the release of the 2-DVD Special Edition version of "Flags Of Our Fathers". I'm guessing "Letters From Iwo Jimma" will release day and date on hi-def as well. Remember that although Paramount owns and distributes DreamWorks live action titles now, that does not mean they will follow Paramount's hi-def practices, case in point DreamWorks is pricing their titles at $39.99 for new releases while Paramount charges $34.99.

Warner Brothers has US video rights to Letters from Iwo Jima.

I am old enough to remember that beta and VHS tapes were going for over $90+ each for Psycho and Dracula (with Frank Langella) in the 80's. I had a beta player (Sony format) and a brick solid Toshiba player! I am looking forward to both these films in HD DVD. I will pay the cost for the films.

Well I don't really see them going for so much? The MSRP is always high on all of these HD movies just like you see at BB. I am sure Amazon will be a lot cheaper at least in the 20's!

Good news for sure, but I'll wait for the inevitable combo release from Eastwood. I don't care to purchase Dreamgirls.

The MOST important point of the release of DREAMGIRLS is not the actual release of the movie but the issue (briefly mentioned above) that Dreamworks has gotten off the fence and have decided to put forth a dual release . . .HD DVD AND BD.

Doesn't this send some kind of a message to the other exclusive studio's supporting BD only that "hey, there is money to be made . . .let the consumer decide who will win the war."

The whole issue of weither Universal stays HD DVD exclusive or joins WB in dual releases becomes that less important. As long as a studio is willing to issue movies in both formats it remains netural in the war. And competition can ONLY be good for the consumer.

Sure their are going to be titles that you the consumer may want on the format you don't have. So you have two options:

1. Buy another player
2. Wait in hopes that ALL studio's go netural - longer you wait, the lower that other player cost will be.

For those who choose BD, an HD DVD player can be had for as low as $319 (saw some A1's for sale on the net, or $390 for a newer A2)

For those who support HD DVD - not so simple. Buy a game console for $600 or a standalone for $800+

We may look back monthss from now and see that DREAMGIRLS was more than just a movie release . . .it may be looked at being a pivitol point in the format war.

Kudo's to Dreamworks!

Expect the announcement of Paramount's next wave of HD DVDs soon (http://hddvdformat.blogspot.com/2007/02/expect-announcement-of-paramounts-next.html)

Expect Paramount's announcement regarding Dreamgirls and Flags of our Fathers to debut on HD DVD, soon. Same for the previously-postponed Failure to Launch Special Collector's Edition HD DVD.

The best of DreamGirls had to be Jennifer Hudson's performance of "Love You I Do". This alone is worth the price of admission and the Oscar to boot. What a knock out. You go girl!

Paramount: Handle with care. Precious "Star is Born' cargo on board. No shortcuts.

I keep waiting for them to release The Producers and Chicago. Even upconverted those look great. Imagine on HD DVD?

That's why in late 70's early 1980 I said screw VHS and Beta for buying movies. I decided to adopt LaserDisc because of $20-$30 disc.
