View Full Version : What is the rainbow effect on DLP'S? zero_zep 02-20-07, 11:21 PM Sorry...I tried the screach function and nothing came up but huge threads and I dont have time to look through all of them only to find a tv that has it but doesnt explain what it is. Thanks... Hogan 02-20-07, 11:56 PM try a google search too. basically it is possible in single chip DLP sets as a color wheel flashes each color sequentially thru the same chip. On scenes with a lot of contrast, sometimes you can see brief flashes of color on the transition area between light and dark, but only if your eyes are panning quickly across. A few people (5% estimated) see them often enough to be bothered. Most can't see them, or if they do see them every once and awhile (that's me) its no big deal. I would go look at some DLPs in the stores. If you don't see the rainbows then don't worry about it, and don't obsess about trying to see them. zero_zep 02-21-07, 12:03 AM well one problem I have it that every DLP screen I look at it seems that the screen is slightly crooked. I took back the first one and got another one and it had the same thing. The tech said it's a problem with the plastic....and then I went back to the store and noticed that every tv with a widescreen image on it was crooked. The guy there said it happens to 80% of them. Is that true or they blowing smoke? Cause I have a few days left that I can take the thing back if they are lieing. But he also said I would have the same problem with a projector so I don't know what to do. Jswerve 02-21-07, 08:30 AM I can't see RBE on my DLP but I always see SSE. It is mainly because I look for it though. zero_zep 02-21-07, 08:41 AM sorry.....whats sse? kelpie 02-21-07, 09:54 AM This link (http://www.dietforum.net/balagee/projected/rainbow.html) has a simulation of what the rainbow effect (RBE) looks like to some people. Wikipedia has a discussion of RBE here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_effect#The_DLP_.22Rainbow_Effect.22). SSE is an abbreviation for the "Silk Screen Effect". Wikipedia has a discussion of SSE here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_screen_effect). HTH, kelpie Edited to fix Wikipedi SSE link. |
