I went to frys tonight and walked around and watched DLPs and Plasmas for about 40 minutes. Now I am curious as to what the dlps do when given a high def and fast motion game on an Xbox 360. Any opinions?

lots of people have a 360 or ps3 with a dlp. and should work fine for you. might get more answers in the 360 forum.

Although my ownership of a DLP was short-lived due to SSE. I will offer my own brief thoughts:

When attempting to play Rainbow Six: Vegas, I felt like my controls were a few milliseconds behind the input. I now have a Hitachi 51F59 (RPCRT) and couldn't be happier with the lack of 'screen lag' if you will.

Note this was just my experience and in no way means you will notice any problems.

thanks for the input. What is sse? Also Frys said I could bring my 360 up to the store to test out the units I am considering. This should be interesting come saturday or friday.

also in consideration about gaming on crt based rptv and plasmas, you have to worry about image burn in. you see if you were to leave an image on pause for a long time, the screen will burn the image in the screen and everytime you change the channel on the tv, you will see the image on screen. that is why i did not buy rptv or plasma for tv and gamming. and i have a dlp and i play a few games on it but i do not have any lagtime on the dlp.

Samsung 1080p DLPs are the best match with the 360 since they are the only ones that accept 1080p over HDMI, component, and VGA.

I have my 360 setup with my Samsung 7178 DLP, and haven't noticed any problems at all. I previously had the 360 hooked up to a 42" Hitachi Plasma (worked fine as well).

well I went to frys with my 360 and tested it on a samsung dlp set and then on this mitsubishi lcd rp set they had on sale. I thought the lcd would be worse, but it actually had less motion blur, and a clearer picture on the 360, so I went with it. I am pretty happy with it.

Is it legit 1080p for all inputs?

Not sure I understand the question ... but most (if not all) of the 1080p Samsung DLPs (not sure on LCDs) do 1080p over VGA and Component. No HDMI on the 360 currently. The 360 puts out a 1080p signal (HD-DVDs and some games) and the TV displays 1080p.

Yes, it is one of the reasons I went with Samsung when I bought mine. I have the HLS-5087 and I couldn't be happier. The Samsungs also have a "Game Mode" to speed up image processing and minimize blur, and it works for me, no motion-blur, but the screen shakes ever so slightly.

My first TV was a Samsung HLP4663 and witht he PS2 and later the XBOX360 there was noticable lag which almost pushed me away from getting another but after seeing the new ones (at the time) in the store, I just had to have one so I sold the 46" to a friend and bought the HLS5687. Absolutely no lag whatsoever. I have a couple other friends who have or had the HLS and XBOX360 and they had no issues of lag either. I would absolutely recommend the HLS model for 360 use. Might have just been mine since voice seemed delayed a lot too but would recommend against earlier models for gaming.

No lag at all here on a 6187, they're great for 360.

I hope you're still reading this thread :D

I use a Mitsu WD-62628, and my brother-in-law games on a Panasonic DLP (don't remember the model) and we love it. I have not once experienced lag or deterioration. For reference (to the gentleman above who found lag while playing Rainbow Six...) I play Rainbow Six: Vegas quite often with no deterioration. I also frequent my brother-in-law's house, and we play on his set quite a lot.

I own all three of the new game consoles, and have a remarkable time playing all three. I not only love it, but I recommend DLP over LCD for cost and speed. Most DLPs are "faster" than LCDs, without getting into heavier pricing. I much prefer DLP over plasma for not only the "speed" of the image, but burn-in. Also, recent enhancements to DLP light output mechanisms has allowed for much higher contrast ratios.

I know that new plasmas have made advances to combat burn-in, but it isn't sufficient. My grandfather purchased a new LG plasma late last year, and had burn-in from Bloomberg within two weeks. Unacceptable, in my opinion - especially if you're wanting to play games.
