I have a Sony KDS60A2000. I have a Directv HR20-700 HD DVR. I am having issues more and more often with watching HD, either with the HR20's OTA tuner or through the dish. What happens is my TV will be showing the picture fine. Then all of a sudden it seems to have to adjust the resolution, and it goes black for a coupe seconds, then it gets black with some jagged lines and then the picture comes back. The whole process takes about 4 or 5 seconds. The problem is, it happens more and more often these days. It is very annoying and has driven me to change some of my season passes from HD to SD, as this does not happen with the SD signal. I have my HR20 native resolution set to OFF, and the HR20 output resolution is fixed on 1080i. Does anyone have any idea where the problems lies? If it is the TV, what can I do? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

If you are using HDMI, you might try component to see if that makes a difference. Also if you have any other HD sources (like OTA via. an internal tuner, or an older D* box) you can look for the issue there as well.

I am using the component out on the HR20, which goes into my Rotel pre/pro whcih has hd component switching up to 1080i, and that is connected to my TV via component.

The "black with jagged lines" is the set adapting to a new incoming scanrate. I have the 1st generation HD-Tivo which can change output scanrates on the fly. It is set to output everything at 1080i by default but by pressing a button on the remote I can change the output to 480i, 480p, or 720p. Every time I do this I get the same black screen with jagged lines.

For some reason your satellite box is changing output scanrates on it's own.

Try going direct to the TV, bypassing the Rotel. Try HDMI and see if you see the same phenomena on that output.
