Someone help me out here. Everything I've heard is that the latest displays should be lag free for 1080p sources.
I have the 70" connected to my PC via DVI to HDMI cable. I verified that the display was receiving 1080p using the display button after configuring the 7800GTX control panel to output 1080p (with underscan of course). Game Mode option is greyed out, as it should be for 1080p sources. In Battlefield, I fire and the effect is displayed/heard about 200-300 ms later. If I go to 1080i, with Game Mode ON, the lag is cut in half, to about 100ms.
isn't this the opposite of what I should be seeing? should the 1080p sources provide a lag free experience? This is terrible!! what am I doing wrong? I'm thinking I need to return this for an LCD.

Perhaps it is your video card/computer causing the delay? what display was your puter hooked up to prior to this?

It has two DVI outputs. I still have the 19" monitor connected to the first output. I added the Sony to the 2nd one, then selected it as the "primary" in the Nvidia panel. The monitor does continue to display a picture, although it's analog.
But perhaps you are right. I will try using just the Sony when I get home.... ugh I really hope so, as I threw away the packaging and I have a 3rd floor apt.

Is it a higher end video card? maybe it is just being overworked some. You may also want to post the question in the gaming area

No that wasn't the issue. I set it up for just the Sony, a single display. right away moving the mouse on the desktop I could feel the lag. no game is needed to prove this. I found that if you remove the overscan compensation at 1080p, it removes a lot of the lag, in fact it becomes a tiny bit better than 1080i in game mode. I wonder if Nvidia is doing the underscanning in software or what, because it's crap slow on the 7800GTX.
However, after disabling overscan compensation I'd still estimate it at around 70 ms. Kind of a bummer, but I guess it will encourage me to get one of those 30" actual monitors, since they will be lag free..
Later tonight I will record the sound of me releasing the left mouse button followed by a sound being played in some application, using something like CUBase. Then I will measure the exact lag times and post back here.
