In the private message screen, the icons in the legend appear to be mixed up.

Why is the icon for an unread message an open envelope, and the icon for a read message is an envelope that is still sealed and unopened? This is entirely backwards from conventional wisdom based on the UI of other messaging software. Did the image files get mixed up somehow?

Sure seems that way...But it have been like this from the time the site started using this software. (2001) We did not make the images and the one that is closed, that should be opened, is named pm_old.gif .

Note I just looked at others sites that run this software...they all are like it is here. Even the current version of vBulletin on their own site is like it is here.

I guess you could look at it this way... Open, showing the new message inside ready to be read. Closed, already looked at and filed away. :)

Sounds like an upstream bug. ;)

The open envelope means that there are messages to be read. Quite frankly I never really gave it a second thought when I first saw it. Guess I'm just easy that way. :)
