Hey guys,

We're looking at purchase a new TV in roughly two months, and the Samsung 56" HL-S5687W caught me eye. A neighbor bought one, and it looks superb. Not only is the picture quality great, but the price is attractive as well. He bought his at $2,200~ from Best Buy and as of now its actually on sale for $1,950.

We already have a good sound system, but I expect we will be picking up an HD-DVD Player if a nice one is available in the $300~ range in a few months. So hoping this TV plays nice.

So thoughts on this TV?

awesome TV

I've had mine for aprox. 2 weeks and love it. HD signal looks awesome on this set with an HDMI, make sure you use the Eliab starter settings and turn DNIE off..

Im planning on picking up a PS3 as soon as tax refund gets here, so i dont know how well it fairs with those new gen dvd players, but HD movies off cable ran with hdmi are pretty intense.

you might also be able to talk the best buy guy down a couple hundo (I used to work there) ask him what the cost is and if he can bring it close to cost. also if your getting it delivered sometimes they drop the delivery price off the actual tv..so thats an extra 50 bucks off your tv (although the 50 dollar deliv charge u still pay for)

I have this set and it is nice out of the box but if you have it isf calibrated you will not believe your eyes. Stuning, is the only word that comes to mind!

With HD DVD it's even better!

yeah I didnt know which one I wanted more, the PS3 with the console and BD player, or go with xbox360 with HD-DVD or a standalone set, but since i wanted more of a console/dvd player I'm goign with PS3

Any Samsung HLS is king of the hill in the DLP world.

For me XBOX 360 with HD-DVD .... KILLER MACHINE with KILLER games.

Xbox 360 running on the VGA cable for true 1080P can bring a tear to your eyes. Mostly because it looks so good you dont blink :)

I only have the 5087W and that is truely awe inspiring in HD.

I bought this TV in January for 1669 shipped to my door. I love it! Also the 6187w is going for 1889 shipped right now!!

Probably Amazon, but the 5687 is higher now. The 6187 is a little lower.

I just bought this TV yesterday. I still haven't perfected the picture through the settings, but no complaints so far.
