well, after hours upon hours of research I have decided to buy the 970. When I actually have it in my home should I wait to start fiddlin' with it? Is there a reccomended amount of time? Burn in time? I am also getting the AVIA DVD, so I was planning on gettin' into the callibration right off! Should I wait? Thanks a ton.

No need for that. It is Plasma displays that have a recommended burn in time. Enjoy your set!

No real burn in time; however, I'd recommend immediately taking it out of "Vivid" mode and putting it in either "Pro" or "Movie" mode.

The Avia DVD is a great tool for your set. I've used it and it's great. However, I find their
picture and brightness were a little off (using a Sony Progressive Scan DVD player). So
I calibrated the picture and brightness with THX Optimizer which you can find in Finding
Nemo, Cars, etc. The picture and brightness in THX is much more natural looking.
P.S. Whenever you calibrate or watch something, use Pro mode ALWAYS.
P.P.S. There is no burn in but there is trailings where a bright picture moves across
a black or dark screen which leaves trailings as the phosphor glows and turns off.

If you mean break in time as in the set settling in to it's new environment because of it being new, i estimate about 40-80 hours of use for it to break in.

Why pro mode? Give me some sound reasons please.

Thanks all! Yes, break in time. So 40-80 hours before I adjust any settings? Also, where is this THX setting stuff on these DVD's? My kids are watching Cars right now! Ka-Chow!

It's the closest to 6500K when put to warm. But when neutral, it's the closest to
6500K in any settings.

Go to Set Up and go to THX Optimizer.
