I have a Media Center machine hooked into my DLP through the VGA input. I've noticed that whenever I watch DVDs with subtitles on, the picture will look "brighter" when the subtitles aren't on screen. When the subtitles come on the screen, everything looks "dimmer". I'm guessing the Samsung is doing something funky to try to keep the average brightness of the screen the same, but since the subtitles are pure white, this causes the screen to flicker between darker and brighter. It's very distracting to watch.
So far, I've tried setting the DLP to movie mode, since I hear that DNIe is disabled in movie mode. That didn't fix the problem though. I also tried the advice on another thread here to disable DNIe completely (the instructions were posted by Eliab) but the picture still flickers between darker and lighter with all those set to 0 (although I also don't have some of those settings in my service menu--I don't have CORE, CORING_ON, and NDON). If anyone has suggestions on where the problem is, I'm open to ideas.
