Hey guys, I have a old Sony, i guess about 3-4 years old and just moved it and found it has a component input in the back. If I hook anything with better than Standard Def is it going to make a difference? This from what I know is a SDTV

Using the component input for SD will provide the best possible picture over S-video, composite or rf. However, you will likely only be able to input a 480i SD signal from a DVD player or set-top-box. Depending upon what you are currently using, you may see a marked improvement.
You can try 480p but I believe the set would need to be spec'd as an EDTV for this.
