I have a Pioneer DVR 541HS with DV port, can I output the files to a PC with firewire ? I know it will accept DV video in, but I need DV file copy out ...

My older Pioneer DVD recorders (520H and 210S) will both output DV to my mini-DV camcorder or my Mac computer.

From what I have read here, anything newer lacks the DV output feature, which apparently was never offered by any other name-brand DVD recorder.

Before I upgraded to a faster Mac, I would edit/compose video content in iMovie on the Mac and then stream it over DV to my Pioneer DVD recorder to burn a DVD in real time. This was far better than rendering and burning on my old/slow Mac.

I can also take video from a non-copy-protected DVD in the Pioneer and stream it over FireWire/DV for importing into the Mac. This is also a real-time video streaming activity, not a file transfer.

Do you have some links to share for streaming out ? I think PC has something like it too

Wow I never tried hooking up my Dell Laptop to my 520H until tonight....

That's cool.... It encodes anything you playback to the firewire port, unfortunately it also records everything that you see on TV including the display screen, etc when you use your remote...

It would have been nice if the firewire out was active all the time cause then I wouldn't need my Canopus ADVC-100 at all... I'd use my 520H to encode everything...
