Can someone tell me some detail on how rainbow should look like?
I finally had a chance to check out samsung hls6187 and picture still looks good but color kinda look wired.
Let me discribe what i see. Lets said a white screen with detailed red dots all over, the red dot would make the whole picture look red due to color inaccuracy and theres a scence, a snow mountain looks greenish on a dark picture, can this be rainbow?
Could it be just that tv?
How many of you guys have this tv and doesnt see any lag time? i seems to see a little.

Im going to get this no matter what but just wanna see where im headed.

What causes the rainbow effect? (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7883413&&#post7883413)

What can I do about Rainbows? (http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=333188)

The second link is from the 2003 HLN model year but if you see rainbow effect then it applys to any color wheel based microchip display.

What you described is either bad source, bad calibration of the TV, or a defective TV. It's not rainbows.

A lots of reading but it helps. Ok its not rainbow then, could it be the "green blob"? can samsung dlp gets it?
Sorry gotta ask. One down, one togo.

samsung dlp's do not get the "green blob" -- only certain sony's.

This link (http://www.dietforum.net/balagee/projected/rainbow.html) has a simulation of what rainbows look like to some people.

That is *exactly* what it looks like to me (in the rare case that I see it). Nice post.

Very good link..that is what it looks like to me also. I returned an otherwise nice Toshiba 1080p DLP for that reason...it drove my eyes crazy.

Exactly what I saw when I was comparing the 61" Samsung and the 60" Sony. I picked the 60A2000 for the extra $300. I just could not see myself going with the rainbows. Plus I really enjoyed the picture. The thing you will find is someone right next to you, may not see them at all... Fun effect

Nope, I just found it with a Google search and linked to it. I'm pretty sure that someone else has used it here before to demonstrate rainbows. I have to admit that I'm kinda curious as to why it's on a diet forum website. Glad you found it helpful.

Ah....that brings back memories from when I owned a Samsung 5087 for two weeks. Except my rainbows were more square-shaped. It was a great TV but if you suffer from rainbows, DLP is not the way to go.

But that site has a great example of what rainbows are like.

That link is a great find.

I perfect example of a picture being worth 1,000 words.

lol that link is exactly what rainbowing looks like. I have to agree that is perfect! I don't see it all the time either, but on dark movies (i.e. Sin City, Batman Begins) I see it very often.

Cool link.

Is there anything I need to do as a TV shopper to "look for" rainbow effects that might be a deal breaker? I'm looking at the 56" samsung (pre LED) and 55" SXRD. They are within $100 of each other at places I'm looking. They are the front runners, although I'm not ruling out the 42" Aquuos or the 40" Bravia LCD.

I would like to be able to know for sure while at the store whether I can "see" rainbow effects or not. Any tips? Obviously the least ideal situation would be if I purchased the samsung and a week from now started going nuts from the rainbow.

I'm gussing the link above is one where "everyone" can see the rainbow, even people who don't otherwise. Correct?

Yeah, I see the rainbow in the simulation but not on my DLP.

Correct. The link just shows a simulation of the rainbow effect for all to see.

Perfect example. That's what I see. Headlights on a car at night shows rainbows a lot too.

I have a DLP front projector and a JVC D-ILA rear projector. When we have friends and relatives with little kids over at our place, I have the little ones in front of the JVC.

Some people (adults) complain of getting headaches from RBE. So instead trying to explain how to avoid seeing RBE to the little ones, I just keep them away from it.

Here (http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/specsformats/displaytechnologiesguide2.php) is an exaggerated simulation of RBE that will give everyone a headache. The video link is at the bottom of the webpage.

No wonder people get headaches if they shake their head like that to see rainbows.
