I was wondering if anybody has replaced the standard yoke magnets with the newer six pole magnets that VDC makes. I was told by an engineer friend that this is a great way to tighten the corner focus by making the spot more round. I have new rebuilt VDC tubes (another story) that are pretty good but it is true that the spot is triangular on the outsides thus never getting good focus using the stig controls. You can see this especially with the dot pattern under the test button (#). A set of magnets from VDC are only about $50 per tube but the problem is that you have to remove the yokes from the back of the tubes causing a complete re-align of everything... Seems to me this is still a better place to start improving a Marquee before you do anything electronic. That is providing it is true...What does MP think?

I swapped over to the 6 pole magnets. Was very quick and easy, you only need to remove the vnb and you've got direct access to it, no need to muck about with the other yokes etc... so no real need to do a complete realign.
I found it only helped marginally with my triangularity problems, but still glad I did it.

I went six- pole from two-pole and it really helped eliminating a severe triangularity problem on my red tube (9500LC Ultra). :)

Other than correcting the triangularity problem. They're really not needed, and I doubt if there's much if any of an improvement over what you already have on the tubes.
Me, I would get them only if a particular tube has that triangularity problem. And it would be on that tube only.

I Agree with Mike, If i remember correctly the 3rd (most backward) ring just seemed to "turn" the dots around their center-point. Can hardly see no point in that..?
Thanks to eveyone for the information. One of my tubes does have a triangularity
issue so I think I will look into it. I brought this projector from the now defunct
Projection Systems International and they promised my new OEM tubes which to me didn't mean new re-built. I am glad I got anything though since they closed up shop
and took alot of people's money. I regret not buying from E-Tech. Live and learn.
