View Full Version : To Universal & Paramount: How About Releasing 'The Best Man' On HD DVD?
Dear Universal & Paramount,
You guys have in your library some of the best movies with prominent black actors and directors ever made. How about releasing the all time classic The Best Man? This is one of my wife's favorite movies of all.
And while you are at it, these greats as well;
Coming To America
Boomerang
Do The Right Thing
cdhender 02-22-07, 11:50 AM I'd love all those on HD-DVD, but I'm definitely not holding my breath.
In fact, I'd love a complete Spike Lee catalog in HD. 25th Hour, Malcolm X, etc all in HD would be awesome.
wizzack 02-22-07, 12:02 PM clockers please.

I know.
The studios need to realize that black movies sell, yes even in HD DVD. My friends and some of my co-workers all have players, be it HD DVD addon or the standalone
clockers please.
Good one. :)

I have seen so many of these threads...which are directed at the studios...in the form of "wake up calls" or wish-lists.
Send it to them directly! Whats the point of posting it here???

Send it to them directly! Whats the point of posting it here???My guess is he's trying to see if anyone else is like-minded. Nothing wrong with that, as can be seen, some of us are.
A friendlier post would have been to say it was a good idea and passed the address along to him. ;)

Co-sign. I'd buy all of those. I'd even accept Bamboozled in HD even though a majority of the film was filmed on MiniDV. Savion Glover just amazed me with his dancing in that movie.
I'd buy The Best Man as well.

SEMAJ92 02-22-07, 03:31 PM I must be the only one who didn't like The Best Man - great cast though.
Spike Lee in HD is mandatory (Clockers, Mo Better Blues, Do the Right Thing, School Daze, 25th Hour, Malcolm X, She's Gotta Have It, Get on the Bus, Inside Man, Girl 6). In case you couldn't tell, I'm a Spike Lee fanatic.
Man, now you got me thinking about House Party in HD. LOL

For kicks I watched Jungle Fever a few days ago on HBO and I'll tell you it wasn't Spike's best movie contentwise but I really liked the life he brought to the scenes. In particular the way he circled the cameras during Flippers confrontation with his superiors or the slick way he captured the discussion with John Turturro and his patrons...pulling out of the window and back as Turturro leans out of the window.
Spike Lee loves cinema and it shows. He has a very strong opinion about many an issue but what filmmaker doesn't? I look forward to owning a majority of his movies and viewing them again through matured eyes.

That was the performance that earned Samuel L. Jackson the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
Halle Berry also put up one hell of a performance as a crack ho. :D

Others have made request like this at AVS so why do you want THIS ONE treated differently?
BTW I would like to have The Best Man on HD DVD also.

I would be great to see all of those on HD-DVD.
I would buy Coming to America but I already have The Best Man on SD. Trying not to double dip anymore. (buy movies in HD, I already have in SD is double dipping)

Seems like some are coming up with just any reason to give cause to not release this, I wonder why they go to such lengths? So by that logic one could say don't purchase ANY HD DVD that you already have in SD. You do know that studios count on the purchase of catalog titles for much of their revenue, yes? BTW I already own Coming To America, Boomerang ,Do The Right Thing and would buy them in a heartbeat in HD DVD.

I'm just trying to cut my spending, a little. I'm trying to finance a Home Theater build I want to start this time next year. So I'm trying to buy disc I don't already own. That's all.

So you're trying to cut your spending by advocating that studios NOT release movies? Would it not be better to let studios release the movie then simply not buy it?
