View Full Version : Marquee 8000: To give away in CALGARY
Mooneyass 02-22-07, 06:26 PM Hey All,
I took my pristine tubes out of my 8000 and put them in an 8500 chassis about 1 year or so ago. So, I have the 8000 (mostly in pieces) as well as 2 of the 3 8500 tubes (cant recall which) left sitting around driving me nuts. I've kept them around in case I needed extra parts but never have needed them. So, if anyone wants to come by and pick the pile of parts up they're more than welcome to.
I'm not willing to package them up as I'd rather just drag it to the dump. I simply dont have the time or the desire, sorry.
I dont frequent AVS very much any more so you're best to shoot me an email at wes at weshill dot com. I'm guessing that it'll only be around for a week or so....
Thanks,
Wes
Alberta truly is one of the "have" provinces...you give away Marquees.
Here in Manitoba I just saw a Sony 1020 for $800.
Mooneyass 02-22-07, 06:57 PM Well, I payed $1k for the 8000 five years ago, got the 8500 for free so I figure it owes me nothing.

I'll take it, but I can only pick the stuff up in about three weeks.
Is that okay?
Way to go Mooneyass, you are to be commended for your helpful spirit. This community needs more members generous like you.

I'll second that, I'm the one who got the "missing" third tube of that two of three tube set I believe! Thanks again Wes.
BTW, my Marquees and I crossed the country over to NB this summer.

WHAT? Don't you know that these machines break down all the time and all we do is sit around fixing them? :D I'd hang onto that stuff for another 10 years just in case. ;)
Gary Gleave 02-22-07, 10:53 PM A guy in Calgary had recently renovated his kitchen.
He put a fridge out front with a sign on it "free"
After a week it was still there, so he changed the sign to "$50".
That night some one stole it.
Gary
PS: Wes we need a pre Eric Clapton concert drinking session.

This is priceless... the weird thing is that I've seen this before. A friend of mine had a horse as a family pet, and they had to get rid of it... and they didn't want money for sentimental reasons so they put an ad in the local paper stating "Free Horse". It ran for over a month with no response... so they put in a new ad selling it for $500 and the phone rang off the wall... go figure!
It's simple. People associate value with cost. When most people see "free" they immediately wonder what litany of problems that item has.
Throw a pricetag on it and it's assumed it has that value or something just below it.
Mooneyass 02-24-07, 03:39 PM Ok, I'll change it to "Pile of Marquee Parts - $8995.00 OBO" ;-)
Actually, the exception must prove the rule cuz I got an email a couple of hours after posting and it's gone.
I did try to give away a Ford C4 Transmission in decent shape and got 0.00 responses....

Glad to hear you could put it to use.

I hear ya. I`ve ran the damn thing about 2 notches below the blue tube blooming for the last 5 years with 0.00 issues. Mind you, converging it every 6 months or so is a real pain ;-)

I just wanted to say a big thanks to Wes here.
I ended up getting the projector from Wes, well most of it anyways, we are still sorting out some pieces.
It is definately in pieces but will be a good learning experience for me if I can put it all back together and make it work.
He also kindly showed me his basement theatre room and AV setup for the house. It got me thinking that I am going to have to put alot more time into planning and implementing mine to make it as good as his is.
Anyways thanks again Wes.
Dave
