In my room it is not possible to place both surround speakers on the side walls. Would it sound better if I put one one speaker on the side wall and one on the back wall or put both speakers on the back wall?

Like, can you space them out several feet, or would they be pretty close together? One on the back and one on the side would probably sound uneven. ExarKunM3 02-23-07, 02:19 AM I should be able to space them about 15ft apart if I put them on the back wall. Should I do that then? cherry ghost 02-23-07, 11:30 AM I should be able to space them about 15ft apart if I put them on the back wall. Should I do that then? There would be little to no space from my couch to the wall. Can anyone recommend some stands that'd do the trick? I'd like to keep it under $150 for a pair. I have Primus 150's. cherry ghost 02-23-07, 08:17 PM There would be little to no space from my couch to the wall. Can anyone recommend some stands that'd do the trick? I'd like to keep it under $150 for a pair. I have Primus 150's. How much do those speakers weigh each? Are you looking for stands that will put them at ear height or the recommended 1'-3' above ear height? What is the height of your ears when seated on the couch? YerDugliness 02-23-07, 08:37 PM I'd definitely suggest stands over wall mounting. It leaves you free to experiment. Try aiming them slightly at the back wall. It will move the apparent sound source back further, although it will localize a bit closer to the listening position. It can be very effective, but with stands you are free to aim the speakers wherever they sound best. It worked for me. Doug ExarKunM3 02-23-07, 09:21 PM Are you looking for stands that will put them at ear height or the recommended 1'-3' above ear height? The recommended, if possible. The speakers are 13lbs. I don't have the couch yet, but it's about 36" high so I'm guessing my ears might be around 40", give or take. cherry ghost 02-24-07, 01:26 AM The recommended, if possible. The speakers are 13lbs. You need to make sure it will support 13 lbs. or more and has a heavy enough base so it won't be top heavy and easily knocked over. Something like the second link might be your best bet if you're willing to spend the money. The cast iron base should make it bottom heavy. The first link is sand or lead fillable which will also give you a bottom heavy stand, but then you have to buy the sand or lead and fill them. Search around on that site, there are plenty of other stands there. If you don't want adjustable stands, you could always find a way to elevate regular stands by putting them on a table or something. ExarKunM3 02-24-07, 02:24 AM Awesome, thanks. I'll probably go with the ones in the second link. |
