This is the commercial version so I have no antenna in for coaxial.
I have a dish HD receiver on my main HD set downstair and I'd like to run TV2 to my plasma which come out in 480i but I could still watch my HD channel upstairs.
What's the best way to do this? For those that don't know the dish work by just sending the signal over coaxial and you just plug that into an antenna in input and tune you tv to channel 62 or something.
Right now I have a 2 component in slots and 1 Svid in slot. All of them are being used. I have one free slot open that I never bought another input card for.
Thoughts?
I don't know the answer but I'm curious as well.
Currently my 42PWD6UY is my "TV1" for my 622 Dish setup but I'm considering moving the display to a secondary room.
I don't think you can add an input board to the PWD that would then allow you to input the coax TV2 feed - you need an analog tuner (cable or air) that will receive the modulated channel assigned for your TV2 output from the 622.
I have an older Samy OTA setup box that I could add next to my PWD but it only has ATSC / QAM tuners; it wouldn't receive the analog TV2 signal. Some old LG OTA boxes have NTSC tuners included along with the ATSC / QAM tuners.
Otherwise, I think you have to consider using an extended run for composite, S-video, component, or HDMI-to-DVI from the 622 to the PWD, which will provide a simultaneous output of TV1. Thus, you lose the dual mode capability but can have better PQ.
You might want to check dbstalk.com's forum section on the 622. There are usually alot of posts there about trying to get a second HD output from the 622. Though some argue that HDMI provides the best long-distance connection, the 622's HDMI output is apparently a bit inconsistent.
I would look there and decide on the best cable connection for your distance.
When you say that your PWD has 2 component inputs, I assume you are already using the PC input which doubles as component?

You are correct...I'm using the PC input.
I was think of moving the 622 upstairs on my 7uy and then running tv2 downstairs.
True it would be silly since I could only get 480p upstairs and 480i on my 1080p set.
But we have a newborn and rarely casually watch TV downstairs. Unless it's to watch one of our show in HD but it's usually OTA and that I get through an indoor OTA hooked directly to my TV.
So the only other thing to think about is the fact that I"m losing some quality on my HD channels but the way I see it now I don't watch them anyways.
Of course as all us Dish people know there's usually nothing good on the HD packages anyway.
I would be half tempted to get rid of the 622 and just go back to SD but I'd miss the ability to record my OTA on my Dish.
I don't think you can use the PWD as TV2 (i.e. able to independently control / view one of your 622's two tuners) because that functionality is limited to the analog channel selected for output.
You need a NTSC tuner to receive that channel and you can't add a board to the PWD's empty slot that serves as a tuner. You can purchase a separate digital set-top box but make sure it has an analog tuner (and many do not as noted earlier).
Thus, without the separate NTSC set-top box, you can't use the coax.
Instead, you will need to simultaneously output TV1 via a video output of your choosing and will need to buy another board for your PWD.
Since you have to run additional wiring and buy another board, I'd suggest going for HD-compatible connections. Again, check here or dbstalk.com for suggestions on long-run HD connections.
If HDMI is truly preferable for long-run connections, you might locate the 622 with the PWD and connect them with component. Then run HDMI to your downstairs 1080p display. If the 622 HDMI output is spotty, then at least you didn't buy the HDMI (or DVI) board for your PWD.
I think you can easily view HD in both rooms; it will just take some experimentation and I would limit the cost of the experiments as much as possible!
Another thought - If you currently have another Dish box (i.e. 625 SD DVR), you might trade it in for a second 622. I think the cost to upgrade might be cheaper than running alot of expensive cable. Then both 622's can output TV2 to non-HD TV's elsewhere in your house.

I have the 510 SD DVR I believe it is called. I've heard you can't have more than one 622.
I might try that.
Actually when you really look at their HD programming (if your not into sports) there isn't much. I called to cancel it last night but the guy said I had a 10 dollard credit per month starting I would lose. I figured it up and by the time I paid the 6 dollar HD fee for not having program I would still be saving 14 dollars but with the 10 dollar credit it's only 4 so I'm going to keep it for now.
I might see how much it would cost to upgrade to a 622. Since it's only SD coming in wouldn't I need someone to come out and install it?
That just adds more money to the mix.
Really the main thing I'm going for is having OTA HD on my top TV. For that I might just get a set top box and install another board or just get a switcher.
The only problem that I've noticed is when I had the 622 on my panny through component the SD looked pretty bad. It looks much better through svideo.
Decisions Descisions:)
