View Full Version : HD1000U + Xbox 360 HD-DVD owners?
NJScorio 02-23-07, 02:23 PM As apparent by the HD1000U owners thread...it is quite a popular item. I have read of several people pairing it up with an Xbox 360 + HD-DVD player. This is what I plan on doing (already have the 360 + HD-DVD).
I just was looking to see who else has this setup, and what info you have on the subject. How do you have it set up? Component? VGA? What resolution settings? Basically any experiences with this combo would be very interesting.
Thanks!
Starbuck 02-23-07, 02:27 PM I have been wondering the same thing since I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a HD1000, with one reservation.... I'm curious on the quality of VGA versus component in. My original plan was to use VGA input so the X360 could scale SD DVD's to 720, but I have read that the VGA input on the HD1000 is crap. Has anyone been able to compare Component versus VGA on HD/SD input via 360?
NJScorio 02-23-07, 02:33 PM ^^ I think I read one comment that VGA cuts off part of the 360 image...not possitve though. I don't know if VGA would offer any benifit, as it is analog like component, and the HD1000U only accepts up to 1080i.
NJScorio 03-01-07, 01:27 PM Anyone else?
Starbuck 03-01-07, 02:33 PM My purpose for wanting to use VGA is to upscale SD DVD's which I am told that the 360 will not do via Component, so it is actually important for me to be able to have a solid VGA connection. I read the same thing you mentioned that via VGA there are some sort of overscan issues (or pixel mapping). I was really interested in actual field results and hoping that someone who has this combination could post feedback. There has to be a couple of lurkers out there??? Maybe with a couple of BTT, folks will chime in. thanks.
I'm interested as well. Maybe a post in the HD-DVD forum might get more results.
DaGamePimp 03-01-07, 05:08 PM Well the HD1000 is very similar to the HC3000 and the HC3000 looks better via the 360's VGA connection vs. Component (once both have been calibrated) . The odd thing here is that the VGA input does not work well with PC's but it works great with the Xbox 360 set at 1280x720p ( at least it does on the HC3000 ;) ) .

Well....I read that the HD1000U produces a better image from the HD-DVD drive when the 360 is set to output at 1080i, because the HD1000U does a better job of scaling 1080 lines down to 720 than the 360 does.
That leads me to believe that the HD1000U would do a better job of upscaling 480 to 720 than the 360 could. In that case, component would be fine.
I've actually read some reviews that the 360 DVD playback is really crappy. Not the HD-DVD playback, but standard DVD. I have one of those Philips that costs $40 and plays everything you can throw at it.
HorrorScope 03-01-07, 09:19 PM I run a 360 into a HD1000u.
1. I use component. Looks pretty snazzy to me.
2. Never tried VGA to it as I don't have that cable running to the projector.
3. I use 720P from the 360 when I send to the HD1000u, to me it looked the sharpest.
If you have a choice at either, try it for yourself!
stratman50 03-01-07, 11:08 PM I use component from my xbox 360 to hd 1000 and it looks great.I tried vga and was not impressed,I could never get it to look as sharp nor the colors to look as good.I also have set the 360 hd-dvd player up on my pc to the hd 1000 using component with great results using power dvd ultra.I have a Amd x2 4200 with the onboard 6150 chipset and have no problems playing any hd-dvd.The xbox 360 is a way more easy setup though than the pc.
i use component with my 360 to my HD1000U LOOKS AWESOME.
I am interested in this as well. I hear a lot of complaint about the sound from the add-on. Is it on par with regular DVD??

Sounds just as good if not better to me. I haven't had any issues with the audio out from it (other than I wish it had hdmi with LPCM out :D)

Currently I put my amp in stereo mode when playing movies to keep the dynamic range. When I switch to 5.1 the sound is very muffled. I am not one that is pissed in the least about it (butt kickers improve any exp. drastically imo!) and measuring everything the add-on is still a great experience and deal for me. I await the firmware update, which should be getting pretty close now and then I'll switch over to 5.1 if fixed. No regrets but that will vary based on how high you put audio in the mix.
Well I watched a bit of King Kong last night on the HD-DVD add on. While the sound was not mind blowing it was not horrible either. I can live with it until they do what ever fix is coming out. The picture looked great.
NJScorio 03-07-07, 09:10 AM Would adding a second powered subwoofer help the sound?
