View Full Version : hd1000-dead pixels or dust blob?

I ordered a mits hd1000u from projector people about two weeks ago. Upon hooking it up, I noticed a light spot on the top center part of the image. This spot is only visible when it is on a black background-such as the black default screen when there is no signal into the pj.

It is very faint, and can be made brighter by defocusing the image. Also, the smaller the screen is, the brighter the spot. Holding a white paper about 12'' from the pj makes it very bright. It looks like 4 little spots, two pink and two green. Pretty much in the center.

I sent the pj back to PP for removal of dust. Today I receive it and the spot is still there. They said they quality checked it-but will look at it again. Said it may be dead pixels, not dust.

I feel I am being very picky, but shouldn't even a small black screen be free of spots?

Does this sound familiar to anyone else with this pj?

Thanks for any input.

the pink and green spot thing is weird. It does, however, sound like a stuck pixel. In all the HD1000 posts I've never heard of someone reporting one though.

I couldn't find much concerning dust on this unit in any posts-or pixel problems for that matter. Maybe it is the cheaper optics-you know, like when the sun shines through a magnifying glass and makes a bright spot. Or maybe that's a dumb idea?

If anyone is reading this and has a HD1000-could you do an experiment for me, so I don't feel like I'm being ridiculous?

Try This:

--Turn on your projector, but dont turn on any input devices. This will give you a screen saying "no input"

--Make sure the screen is set to black(not blue-there is a menu option to change this.)

--When the screen is totally black, hold a piece of notebook paper a foot or two away from the lens so your screen is projected very small.

--Move the focus ring back and forth-do you see two spots in the top center that alternate in and out of focus?

I had an HD70 prior to this, and did not notice anything similar. Thanks for any help here.

* Edit - cropped out my initial message.

Never computed that you mentioned the unit went back already to be cleaned out.

If you see it, but they didn't, sounds weird. I'd call them back. If you've had it for 2 weeks, they should be exchanging it rather than tinking around with cleaning dust or whatever.

It is odd that they missed it, but the mark is very faint. I am going to request a swap, rather than another cleaning-we'll see what happens. I don't like the idea of a new unit already having been opened up twice for service.

I ordered it two weeks ago, but haven't had it for a full day yet :(

Salty, did they ever fix this for you?

My unit has the same problem. But i have like 7-8 of these spots visible on and off screen. (they are even outside the projection/image area) They are not colored, but bright white spots. They go in/out focus when i move the focus ring and turn brighter when i decrease the zoom. I don't know if its dust, dirtyness, death pixels or anything else.

I have sent the unit to their repair center and got it back last week. The report says it was a dust problem and that they have cleaned the unit. Once i turned it on i noticed the bright white spots are still there! (????)

I am now going to return this unit again and surely hope this can be solved.
