Bruce Wayne 02-24-07, 12:10 PM Come on guys, you can't tell me no one wants to share their settings. cavu 02-24-07, 01:58 PM Come on guys, you can't tell me no one wants to share their settings.Like the rest of the InFocus lineup, the IN72 is pre-calibrated  and the favored settings are the default settings. Sorry to disappoint. krasmuzik 02-24-07, 03:26 PM Read the larger Infocus thread and you will find all your answers... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9838375&&#post9838375 Infocus PJs don't need any sticky tweak threads - you bought the wrong PJ. pingone 02-24-07, 03:29 PM tweaks and settings may not be needed, but i'd like to hear what screen is working best for everyone. krasmuzik 02-24-07, 03:49 PM Formulas for screens are ftL = lumens * gain / square feet. Your goal for a dedicated movie theater is 16ftL on a new lamp. Media room or daily TV use you want to multiply that. Setup considerations are certainly discussed in the main PJ threads. Derate specs for low power mode 20%, another 10% for 6500K vs. native color temp, and maybe 20% for long vs. short throws. Once you find the gain you need - then narrow it down considering viewing angle and projection angles and base fabric - all of which is a function of the room/lighting you have to work with. I am a fan of DaLite HighContrast CinemaVision for a modest gain grey that works well in imperfect rooms. Currently I use Draper HiDef Gray and Vutec SilverStar. All surfaces have their pros/cons - you can find discussions on that in the screen forums - as well as in DIY screens if you are so inclined. rjfoster 02-26-07, 12:19 PM Like the rest of the InFocus lineup, the IN72 is pre-calibrated  and the favored settings are the default settings. I've had my IN72 just less than a month, and had messed with the settings, but was never totally pleased with the results. Two weekends ago I made a DIY screen using Behr Silver Screen paint. I went with a grey-screen due to a moderate-small amount of ambient light, mostly caused by the 55-gallon fish tank. At that point I whipped out the THX optimizer and ran through the video and audio tests. My settings were currently all over the place. After running through the THX tests all, except one, settings were back at the defaults. The only setting that wasn't default was my brightness; which went to 52 (default is 50). After running the THX optimizer my home movie watching experience has been taken to a whole new level. The only time I don't use the default settings is for playing video games, as it seems games are a bit too dark. I cranked up the contrast to 58 or so, and the brightness to 56 which helps a bit. I'm glad the IN72 was three presets, so now I have one for movie watching--which is straight after the THX optimizer tests. One setting for video games (a bump up in brightness, contrast and sharpness). And one for day-time TV watching (Film mode OFF, higher brightness, high contrast). YMMV Use the THX optimizer (should be available on most DVDs with the THX logo, and see for yourself, how close you come to the defaults. -r krasmuzik 02-26-07, 01:49 PM You should adjust gamma to account for daytime - gamma was designed to compensate for surroundings. They even have one called brightroom! |
