View Full Version : Mythtv tuner order
newlinux 02-23-07, 05:53 PM Is there a way to specify the tuner order when watching LIVE tv? (i.e. the sequence of tuners I go to when changing tuners). I have tried deleting and adding cards in different orders, and it changes the order of the cards, but not in any predictable way I can tell (i thought it would be in reverse order of how I added them, but it doesn't quite do that either).
Thanks.
wnewell 02-24-07, 12:20 AM When you add a card it's given the next highest number (starting with 1). Live Tv starts at the highest number and goes down in tuner use. Recording starts at lowest number and goes up unless you specify a prefered tuner to use in the recording profile. If you want to renumber the cards, you must delete them and add them again.

That's what I thought was supposed to happen, but that doesn't happen for me with the live TV viewing. right now it goes from the highest number to the second lowest number to the third lowest number (I have 6 tuners). Must be something else going on with my system...
wnewell 02-25-07, 04:12 AM I've only got 5 tuners, numbered 1-5, but at one point, because of moving them, adding deleting, etc. they were numbered really screwy with the last one added being 12 IIRC. I think all it took to straighten it out was to delete all the cards and redo the setup.

I haven't deleted tuner cards in a while. When I first was playing around setting up my box I did something (if I remember it was deleting and adding a input source again) and I lost all of my scheduled recordings.
Can you delete just one tuner at a time? If I remember correctly, I thought the only option in the setup was to delete all of them.
Deleting and adding tuners back does not effect your recording schedule does it? I now have a ton of scheduled recordings and I don't want them to disappear. It'd be ok if I had to edit them to correct the preferred tuner, I just don't want all of them to completely disappear and have to "find" all my programs again.
newlinux 03-07-07, 08:33 AM yes, you can delete one tuner at a time. On the machine that has the tuner select it and press the "d" key. It *shouldn't* affect your schedule, but in my case sometimes I've sometimes lost clumps guide data which caused some dropped recordings. Nothing that wasn't fixed with mythfilldatabase --refresh-all

Thanks for the info.
Do you happen to know if you have a tuner set up and named, for example I have one called "PVR500 1", with scheduled recordings using it as the "preferred" tuner, if you delete it and then add it back with the same "name" does myth keep the "preferred" tuner in the scheduled recordings, or do you have to go back and edit those schedules and pick the preferred tuner again?
Considering just about everything under the sun is configurable in Myth, you'd think you would be able to specify the "preferred" starting live TV tuner.
newlinux 03-08-07, 09:58 AM I don't think the name matters... Recording priority will be determined by the order added and the priorities you set on each tuner and each recording. In moving around my tuners I've had to make some tweaks to the tuner priorities to get them how I want them. So if you have a particular tuner that you want to be preferred give that tuner (in mythttv-setup) a higher priority (or you could manipulate the recording schedule, as you mentioned. Whatever gets you where you want to be). Yes, you would think you could just specify live tv preference as you can specify recording priority. Would have saved me some trouble.
And now that i think about it, I can't remember if it was the "d" key or the "delete" key. But one of them is right :).

As a followup for anyone else in this situation, it is the d key that will delete a single tuner. Although I would probably advise against it because that is what causes all the wierd tuner numbering.
Also, if you are trying to "reset" the tuner numbers to start at 1 again, you have to use the "delete all tuners" option
You can also add tuners in the order in which you would like to use them for recording and/or live tv. For example in my case, I wanted my two QAM HD tuners used first for recording so I added them first and I wanted the SD tuners to be used first for live tv since I rarely watch live tv other than news/etc, so I added my 2 SD tuners last.
You cannot use the "delete all tuners on NAMEOFYOURMYTH server" option. I tried that first as all my tuners are in the backend server. It didn't work. The numbers kept getting higher when I added the tuners back. You have to use the "delete all tuners" option to reset out the tuner numbers.
darkwire 03-11-07, 03:41 AM I've always found this mildly annoying, but what I did was just manipulate it in the database.
