Forgive me for not searching thru the FAQ's but is there a way to record DirecTV HD onto D-VHS? If so, what deck do people use?

I do not believe that this is possible. As I recall at one time there was some sort of mod that could be purchased for a DTV box...but I don't believe that this is available anymore.

The 169time was the device I was thinking of. I didn't think it was still available.

It is, but you'd have to be really stupid to buy it when 5000HD is available.

I just stumbled onto this thread... and I'm without breath!

Comcast here in SW PA is over $90 with 1 premium channel.

Since the ONLY thing Comcast brought to the table for me, was the firewire output on their STB. (Of course, they could turn that off at any time)

Although expensive, these mods make small dish TV feasible for me.

I was wondering (I think this is how I found this thread) if the old, I think it was RCA DVHS that only worked with Direct or DISH. Did it work in conjunction with a STB? Would that system still work today?

D-VHS forever,
Tom

PS. I believe BR media will never be cheap enough to be cost effective for HDTV. So that leaves D-VHS and PC hard drives. Of course, eventually, everything will be flash memory. So considering all that, BR should be an evolutionary dead end as far as recording is concerned.
