It's a little on the cheap side. Is it safe to buy this instead of the Monster ones? What are the drawbacks?

Yes that cable is ok. A MUCH better value than the Monster. ALOT of AVSer's use Monoprice cables, including myself. It is a quality cable.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've ordered the monoprice cable. This brings me to my second question. My ps3 60gb has worked flawlessly except for one very annoying thing. About 1/5 of the time it will freeze at start-up. Just when the wave materializes and before any sound the screen will freeze and nothing will happen. Sony support recommended that I try a new HDMI cable (currently using my friend's Monster HDMI cable). Do you think it is likely that a new hdmi cable (now monoprice) might fix the problem?

As long as you only need a 3ft cable. I purchased the same cable however at 6ft in length instead of 3ft. Cable works great!!! No difference in comparison to the more expensive cables....you will not suffer loss of quality....only experience will be one of relief when you realize you did not need to spend $60.00-$100.00 on an HDMI cable.

I'd get a 6' HDMI cable from Monoprice.
