Looking to upgrade the sub and speakers at some point (probably Bic H-100 and Athenas.) Also want to get an upconverting DVD player. Oh, and to paint the speaker stands. :D

It’s not a question of competition can he beat me or can I beat the Empire. Where hare to share :) and pick up different techniques.

No, it’s very good neat and tidy :) but practice with the layout of the loudspeakers use wild imagination inspiration.

I see you made custom speaker stands, but if the flat screen was just lowered a few more inches down to where height of the stand would be at the same height as the flat screen.

You could give the speaker stands a metallic look with some of that metallic chrome spray paint?

It’s doable. :)

DVD changer is now an Onkyo DV-CP704. :)

It's either the TV is not eye level or the speakers not ear level.

Speakers are higher than ideal, although not enough that I worry about it. If I can lower them about two inches, the centered tweeter will be right at ear level.

I also tend to shift position while watching stuff (nervous habit), so no configuration will be ideal for me anyways. :p

By the way I see you have the Onkyo 790, how does it perform 7.1 matrixed?

It depends on the source, but it does a pretty good job with some of my DVDs in certain modes. I need to test it more, but I like what I'm hearing.

I noticed in some scenes of Pitch Black, like when the characters are surrounded by the monsters, the back surrounds get some really good sounds going. Exorcist uses them well, too. Heck, even my VHS copy of Vertigo got a bit of use out of them using PLIIx.

At some point I'll break out my LOTR discs and see how well those do.

It kinda sucks when you have 7.1 and you can't use it discretely. I almost bought
this model but I was skeptical at the 7.1 setup because it can't do it discretely or
even have a PCM to support the 7.1.

IIRC it can do discrete if I use the analog inputs. But I'd have to upgrade to one of the hi-def disc formats and use a specific player, and I'm not ready to buy one yet.

I don't understand why everybody upgrades the subwoofer from the HT-S790. I think it's very good for a system I only paid $315 for.:) I just had to increase the level on it through the receiver and it works good enough for me.

I've actually been thinking about picking up a second one if I can find one cheap. But shipping kills it usually.

Very nice set up BTW. I really like how everything looks simple yet functional.

I'm sorry, I looked at the wrong Onkyo picture when referring to not having PCM 7.1.

Looks good, how do you like the Samsung?

I like it a lot. Part of me wishes I got the 1080p, but this was at a price I couldn't resist. The HD and upscaled DVDs look great, and SD is pretty good, even using VHS is all right.

Well, to update, the Pioneer STB threw craps, so I went to TWC's office and got a SA3250HD. We'll see how long this one lasts. :p

Properly calibrated, it's very good. I noticed it today watching an old Hitchcock movie that the blacks showed up fine.

I got mine through Amazon.
