I'm sure we are talking apples and oranges, but is the SB12-Plus a clear $300 better sub?
The $699 is making it difficult to pull the trigger.

Tim Thanks Tim  :D tase2 02-26-07, 10:37 AM Yes, it is clearly that much better. Tim Now I can't get the Bic H-100 knowing the SB12-Plus is so much better. I will always be saying "What if?" At the same time though $700 is simply too much for me. :( Decisions Decisions rockemsockem 02-26-07, 10:43 AM Why are you only looking at these 2 subs. I am listening to suggestions from Many in the Velodyne CHT Front Row Speakers thread. The Bic H-100 apparently watch well with these. At the same time I had researched the SB12-Plus earlier and determined it to be considered a great sub. I am looking for something small in size, but really good to great quality. The SB12-Plus comes out on top. unleashed 02-26-07, 02:26 PM Now I can't get the Bic H-100 knowing the SB12-Plus is so much better. I will always be saying "What if?" Hard Decisions? I don't think so. :) tase2 02-26-07, 02:34 PM I still manage to drive my Ford on a daily business, knowing that the BMW's and Mercs are so much better. Hard Decisions? I don't think so. :) You're talking tens of thousands of dollars and I am talking $300. My is manageable but I haven't been able to justify it in my mind. Where as a $40,000-$50,000 Benz or BMW is something that does not even enter my mind. So again I say Decisions Decisions. rockemsockem 02-26-07, 02:44 PM Honestly, you can't appreciate the differences between subs unless you are just bass nut, or have good speakers that are up to the task, and are able to properly calibrate and dial in a sub. I'm not saying that in reference to the two subs mentioned, just in general. IMO, one should not invest in a sub that costs more than all his other speakers combined unless he is after a specific result from that investment. tase2 02-26-07, 02:53 PM Honestly, you can't appreciate the differences between subs unless you are just bass nut, or have good speakers that are up to the task, and are able to properly calibrate and dial in a sub. Now I should be able rest easy. So you think the Bic H-100 or is there another fairly decent quality small sub? rockemsockem 02-26-07, 03:12 PM Is there specific measurements you can't go over? The BIC is 17 x 15 x 18.25, let's see.... The HSU STF-2 is 19 x 14 x 18, so it's just 2 inches taller, but 1 inch slimmer, and so is the VTF2.2 pretty much. The Outlaw LFM-2 is a mere 17 x 11.25 x 16.5 The Mirage Omni S10 is 17 x 14.7 x 18.5 For my money it would be: 1) HSU VTF 2.2 2) HSU STF-2 3) Outlaw Audio LFM-2 4) Mirage S10 (4th mostly because of price @ $499) I've never heard one thing made by BIC, so I can't comment on the H100. unleashed 02-26-07, 04:19 PM You're talking tens of thousands of dollars and I am talking $300. OK, let's try it again. I buy the $10 t-shirts at Walmart and have no issues wearing them knowing that the ones at Nordstrom are so much better. It's all about your priorities. BTW, I've seen plenty of people still living in apartments but driving brand new BMW's. And I'm not talking Manhattan here. tase2 02-26-07, 05:30 PM Is there specific measurements you can't go over? I think I'm going with the Outlaw Audio LFM-2. It may not be the best, but it has great WAF appeal. For $299 I can be happy. Thanks psujohny 02-26-07, 08:19 PM For 220.00 shipped, the Bic H100 is an excellant performer. I just hooked one up in my bedroom system. I have a HUGE bedroom ( 21x17 and opens to a 12x15 sitting area). My sweet spot ( on the bed ) is 20 feet away from the freakin sub. I have the Bic corner loaded. Budget was tight so I went with the Bic, fearing it would be to puny and not up to the task. Well I was wrong, I just hit 104 db @ 20 feet away with no problem on Jurassic park..pretty freakin good for the situation ! and it hit with some good authority too and can go down to around 25 hz. For music I found I had to put the crossover at 80 hz as 100 hz was to localizable..My small speakers only go down to 90 hz but the sub blends much better @ 80 hz regardless. The Bics also Fairly good for music, but is geared more towards HT.. Also the fit and finish of the Bic is really nice ..Black piano lacquer top is a nice touch, dam sure doesnt look like a 200.00 sub. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Ive had a few SVS's (20-39, 16-46 etc.) in the past and enjoyed them as well ..Big SPL's for HT, but I ended up moving on to some 15 inch sealed subs ( James ) in my main system. Bottom line, if money is tight ... for 220.00 bucks shipped, The Bic is a HECK of a deal PS. In the past before internet direct subs..I owned many 400~700 dollar retail subs ( Infinity, def tech, jbl ) comes to mind..and I think the Bic may be a better sub straight up. Thank God ( or maybe Al Gore ) for the internet :) pdadi 02-26-07, 09:43 PM For 220.00 shipped, the Bic H100 is an excellant performer. I just hooked one up in my bedroom system. It was too much in my living room and scared the hell and btw I listened at -10 below reference. psujohny 02-27-07, 07:05 AM What was the gain on the sub and db setting on the receiver? I watched war of the worlds with gain at 10 0 clock and receiver db setting at -5. It was too much in my living room and scared the hell and btw I listened at -10 below reference. I set the gain on the sub at half before running the Pioneer EQ. All speakers are set at 72 db @ 0 on the Pioneer after auto eq ( per a radio shack meter), but I did turn the sub up by 3 db (like it a little hot). At the time I hit 104 db it kinda suprised the heck out of me as the master volume on the Pioneer was only at -15 of reference. tase2 02-27-07, 04:07 PM Decision Made: Onix X-Sub (http://www.**********/products_product.php?section=subwoofers&product=12.1) :) |
