I own a Canton AS-80 Subwoofer, and would like to connect it to an Integrated amp with my preouts. The owners manual shows this model has low level IN and low level OUT. They say to hook up in this manner, using these jacks..Preout>line level in>line level out>Main in. Then it says this connection however will be unfiltered(no high pass).
My question is, why even bother with this type of connection if it goes unfiltered? Is that not the whole point of chaining it in this confiuration? And also, since I do not have seperates or a preout/main in loop, (not too mention bothering with 4 cables). Can't I just use the low level inputs on the sub from my preouts on the back of the integrated amp, like how most are connected? If it has line level outs, does that mean they have to be used. It just does not mention anything about just using the inputs except for a dedicated sub output.

The sub's passthrough, as you have described simply mimics a Y-connection. You can use the preamp out to the sub and the speaker out to your main speakers as long as you do not shunt the l/r preamp outs.
So as long as I use 2 cables from my preouts, to the left and right low level inputs, that's fine. I don't have to use the low level outputs or they do need to be connected. It seems if you can use a single mono sub cable from a subwoofer output, why can't you use 2 cables from a preout without having to use the low level outputs? When you say shunt, I assume it means to put aside, like not use. So the outputs have to be used with the inputs.

Yes. As long as they are preouts and not tape outs.
I want to simply connect using the 2 low level inputs without using the outputs. Or is it when a sub has outputs, they have to be used?

You do not have to use the outputs.

O.K. But what did you exactly mean by this?

Is this the same amp that's in the Canton Movie 100 set? I listned to this system at the local store and it sounded very good. Impressive for the $$$.
As far as the sub amp, I don't know. But I am very pleased with this model. I think it is better then my Mirage s-10.

"as long as you do not shunt the l/r preamp outs."
O.K. But what did you exactly mean by this? Some preamp outs are unbuffered and connecting them together with a Y-cable will destroy L/R separation for the main outputs.

Some receivers and integrated amps that have pre-outs and pre-ins have to have a complete connection made at the pre-out and pre-in level. That's why you see some that have 'jumpers' connecting the outs and ins. If you remove the jumpers and only hook something up to the pre-out and nothing to the pre-in you aren't going to get any sound.
This doesn't apply to all receivers and integrateds, but many are like this. It is unfortunate that your sub doesn't filter out the bass information that's going back to your integrated, but that might be how you have to hook it up anyway.
This amp does not have a loop in back. It has an extra set of preouts, so I will be able to just hook up to the low level inputs.
