Hey Guys

I currently have 3 xbox360's dotted around the house all sharing media from my PC, The setup is fine for SD content, i use Netgear HDX101 Ethernet plugs as wireless is not very good in my house as its over 100 years old and the walls are very thick. HDX101 provide a reliable connection all over and never get blips in SD video. HD however is another story, it simply blips every 30 seconds.

I already have a router in place in my house, supporting 10/100mb connection. would a wired 100mb connection run at a real 100mbps? My ethernet plugs in theory run at 200mbs but in reality run about 20mbps which i thought should be enough for HD anyway?

To ensure a stable HD connection, would wiring each XBOX to my router via 100mn ethernet be a better solution? If there is another option that is just as easy and cheap to impliment, i am open to suggestions

Many Thanks

why 3 xbox360's

a wired network will be better than wireless, both speed and security. I don't know if it would work if all 3 360's call for hd content at the same time.

1 360 in my pool room, 1 in my bed room, 1 in the lounge - each is used for streaming content and the kids use them for gaming also. only 1 is used for streaming video at any one time

would a 100mbps LAN cable be good enough to stream HD content?

Thanks

With the 360 I expect you are stuck with a specific file format to stream your media in correct? I'm not familiar with streaming media to the newer xbox but i would expect if you know the format you should be able to find out what the average bitrate is for HD content. That doesnt really answer your question but it might get you moving in the right direction.

Yes. I used it. Just buy a 100 feet long cable and connect inside the home... Some people drill the walls and put the Ethernet cable on the outside.

Netgear HDX101 supposedly is also enough for streaming HD content... at least in 1 to 1 connection. May be it is because you use 4 connections - you get problems. Did you try to run it with just two Powerline adaptors?

I have just bought the netgear adapters, and yes, i can now stream HD content flawlessley - i can work 2 xbox's at a time, when the 3rd is all 3 will blip but i never need 3 on at any one time

I tested it before and they always blipd even with one, but i put that down to badly converted content (downloaded) my DVD rips at 4000 bitrate and HD at 12000 work amazingly
