Did I do good? bgillyjcu 02-25-07, 02:53 PM All you have to think about is that a new one with the 12.3 driver would have been a little over $900 with shipping and tax. $600 sounds reasonable to me.....I'd look into upgrading the woofer to the 12.3 though....I cannot quote you on HOW MUCH of an improvement it would be, but I know the 12.3 is a step up from the 12.2 from what I have read. If he does that then he might as well buy a new one with a 12.3 since he will spend more total that way. embryjim 02-25-07, 04:34 PM attaboy. Thanks! Whew! bgillyjcu 02-25-07, 04:39 PM If he does that then he might as well buy a new one with a 12.3 since he will spend more total that way. How do you figure....the upgrade is $169 http://www.svsound.com/products-parts-plus12_3woofer2.cfm $600+169=$769 Figure maybe $15-$20 shipping and $10 in tax STILL leaves him ahead of the game....at UNDER $800. Still way under the near $940 price tag of a New one shippied with tax... It was only a suggestion..........he would have to look into the difference in performange from the 12.2 to the 12.3. I mentioned I have NO IDEA if it is worth it....that he would have to ask SVS or ask the forum for people who have made the switch. embryjim 02-25-07, 06:14 PM Thanks guys, it was actually $575 shipped, but I opted for Paypal instead of MO to get the sub faster and that pushed it to almost $600. I may look into the 12.3, but I'll have to see what it sounds like as is...my whole point was to try and get a near reference quality sub for a ridiculously low price, something I really never believed was possible. bgillyjcu 02-25-07, 08:03 PM Even with the 12.2 driver you are in for a treat! :D I wish you could take a video of your face when you first try the sub out.....most of us had a bruise on our chin from our jaw hitting the floor ggunnell 02-25-07, 08:07 PM As Ron and Tom have said many times, there's not much difference between the 12.2 and 12.3 until you get the sub pretty loud. In a small to midsize room at moderate volumes save your coin. Mid to large room and higher output -- get the 12.3. The tune you use is another factor -- because of the lower tunes are less efficient, if you are running 12 Hz tune, get the 12.3. 16Hz tune -- depends on output. 20Hz tune -- save your money (if you are short of SPL in 20 Hz tune I'd put the upgrade coin toward the purchase of a second sub). Something like that, anyway. :) vinyl 02-25-07, 08:47 PM I wish you could take a video of your face when you first try the sub out.....most of us had a bruise on our chin from our jaw hitting the floor Care to share your video of the experience – better still, perhaps you might have a group shot of the “most of us” displaying the proud wounds – the extreme enthusiasm borders on simple animated exaggerations http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t130/VinylSpinner/Drunk.jpg embryjim 02-25-07, 08:58 PM Thanks for the replies...yeah everything I've read talks about the jaw-dropping moment..can't wait, maybe I will film it. I'll probably stick with 20HZ, maybe go to 16, it's a mid-sized room, so I should have more than enough sub. I've been trolling the Internet for something magical, found a few M&K dualies for around $600-700, but they were 7-10 years old and 125-200 watts at best (although I've heard they can kick). Of course the venerable Dr. HSU was on the list, so it was really that I got tired of looking and just pulled the trigger when I found the SVS. This is for HT mostly as I have another music rig, so I'm not too worried about the mid bass roll off associated with the 20-39, although depending on who you listen to, it's good for music too. bgillyjcu 02-25-07, 09:18 PM Care to share your video of the experience – better still, perhaps you might have a group shot of the “most of us” displaying the proud wounds – the extreme enthusiasm borders on simple animated exaggerations http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t130/VinylSpinner/Drunk.jpg Don't be an .... I was only kidding........Why do you feel the need to even post a comment like that....it is useless and pointless to the topic. ravingndrooling 02-25-07, 09:25 PM Just purchased a near mint SVS 20-39 PC-PLUS (3 years old - 12.2 driver) for $600 shipped.
