View Full Version : To Part Or Not To Part...
carpfisher 02-25-07, 09:59 PM Hi All,
I have my Marquee 8000 in the UK, which suffered what was suspected to be a broken HVPS.
The question is, is there anybody/company in the UK which would be interested in taking this off my hands as-is, or should I part it out? Which would be the most profitable?
Thanks
carpfisher
pcCinema 02-26-07, 03:29 AM Prices for working marquee's in the UK are high. Very high! If you want the most money for it and the tubes are good you should buy a new hvps, fix it, and then sell it. Check ebay or the for sale section here for a hvps, it's easy to install.

Huh ? Why on earth would you chuck a perfectly good projector(I'm assuming thats the case), just because it needs an HVPS ? I've bought HVPS's for very little, and you can get them any day of the week for $200.US(ish...)...
Seems a shame to junk a projector for want of one part...
carpfisher 02-26-07, 07:38 PM Thanks both, that's interesting. I was leaning towards the part-out.
I have since replaced the projector with an NEC XG1100, so it's not mission critical that I get it going.
My fear is that, because the diagnosis is just a "probably", that I might go down the road of spending a lot of money chasing up blind alleys and still not get it going.
However, this has pricked up my ears for a repair. Would anyone like to speculate what I might get for the projector in the UK? You say a lot - what's a lot?
Oh crikey, if I get it going, I might get distracted with Frankenyokes and moving the NEC lenses to the Marquee. Noooo, the misses wants rid of it!
Thanks
Carpfisher
Ill take it under my wing...................................
Oh look! im in the UK too !!!!

Mmm! not sure you are up to speed here...........
An 8500 with mint tubes was up for sale at £750.00..........
Only weeks ago. ebay sale...........I dont consider that "Very High!"
Whats the tubes like in this unit?
pcCinema 02-26-07, 08:49 PM Well things may have changed, but are you quoting a freak cheap deal or regular sale prices there? They sure always used to sell for a lot more than in the states.
How much was the xg there that replaced this? Was it dirt cheap too?
The NEC is a better performing unit than the marquee would be, no point in going that route unless you can't deal with the NEC noise.
Oh and who was that seller on here that wanted 3500US for an ES 7" just a month or two ago?

Carp,
If your interested, I have a complete and working XG1100 parts machine for your XG. You wouldn't run into any problems you couldn't fix, thats a plus. PM me if your interested, right now the only problem is I'm in the US.

Yes, I saw that one too.
Prices have come down a bit in the UK recently but the supply of good units is still very low. This one was unusually cheap and came with a decent scaler if memory serves.
Well things may have changed, but are you quoting a freak cheap deal or regular sale prices there? They sure always used to sell for a lot more than in the states.
Another sold for under £1000 UKP same condition.
Sadly too many people keep saying "ONLY 9 INCH units are worth buying!"
That seems to come from a numbe rof people on here...........
Many people cant afford the lower CRTs and so I think might even get put off buying.

Troy - You might have missed the point there, the person who brought that up got banned from ebay, and banned from the UK forum (not by me).
He did not give you the facts...........And was unable to communicate in a sensible way to others.
The 500+HD unit sold for £550 DELIVERED with MINT tubes, as I said it would to a customer with a Seleco 350 already so a fantastic upgrade path - exactly as I said it would sell for and the money it is worth.
The unit was NEVER to be sold for $3500 USD - it was priced so that I did not get idiots asking questions that did not want the unit, just here to waste my time. That worked up until the sale was mentioned here and a number of people took the info as they were given it without considering there might be others reasons.
2 ears 1 mouth, Gods perfect ratio :D .
pcCinema 02-27-07, 10:04 AM OK, well if it's not worth much there any more then I guess the OP has his answer.
I guess that's progress for you. Those damn bulb projectors have ruined the entire world market. :) Excuse me while I look for more $50 NEC pg's...
