Ok, I have a samsung lcd monitor that allows these components: dvi, svideo, rgb, and YCbCr.

My ps3 uses hdmi, mutil to whatever. optical. Ive never used optical.

My problem is, how do i use a hd cable, and still have audio. With component i can branch the yellow into the tv and white/red into the audio system i have in my living room. But if i get an HDMI to DVI/YCbCr then i have nothing to hook into my audio player.

My samsung has no built in speakers.

PS i posted this in another area but seems as if noone goes there.

so your lcd has no speakers and you want to connect the ps3 to the external speakers?

well for audio, you need a connection such as an optical cable to go from the ps3 to speakers, if your speakers have optical.

and since ps3 doesnt have two hdmi's, then you cant go hmdi to lcd and hdmi to speakers. and thats considering you had speakers with hdmi.

so i guess its up to you to get speakers with the proper inputs.

ps3 sucks btw.

lol thanks for the reply, and the reminder of ps3 sucks. I've never used optical before so i'll look around for speakers that use optical.

LMAO. OK buddy. According to my experience and that of MANY others on this forum, the PS3 is one of the best Blu-Ray players on the market (and the least expensive).

Any particular reason you think it sucks or are you just trolling?

Speakers that use optical? I think you mean receiver that uses optical. You'll need a receiver/amplifier that can process and send the signals to the speakers.

You can use any combination of video/audio connections on the ps3, just set it in the menu. You can use HDMI for video and then standard RCA for audio and just leave the yellow cable unplugged, or rca with optical, or hdmi with optical or hdmi with hdmi.

Hint:

It's in the PS3 manual. Read it.
