View Full Version : Algolith vs. VP30-Mpeg stuff

I have read and reread threads, dug through the forums etc. but can't seem to get a grip on the following. Forgive me for the simple question.

I am running a DVDO IScan HD. My primary sources are DVDs and Dishnetwork. The mpeg artifacts on the Dish are pretty bad, as to be expected.

I have been looking at Algolith units (fleas in particular) to help with this. I am curious, however, if the VP30 with the abt102 card helps with mpeg artifacts. It sounds as if it should.

Am I corrrect? Or should I am for a flea instead?

Thanks,
Bob

Both of these devices have a completely different function. The VP30 is a deinterlacer/scaler with no noise reduction capability, the Algoligh units are noise reducers without scalers/deinterlacers.

They complement each other very well.

Thanks for the quick response. If I lept my current setup the same and simply replaced my Iscan HD with a VP30 woudl I see any benefit at all?

The reason I am confused is on the DVD site (http://www.anchorbaytech.com/vrs_technology/noise_reduction.php ) it states

"...Anchor Bay has developed a proprietary method of selectively removing mosquito noise and other compression induced artifacts...."

Thanks,
Bob

The VRS noise reduction, AFAIK, isn't actually used in any of their processors. It's _definitely_ not in the VP20, 30, or 50.

Although many of us VP50 owners are sure hoping it gets added...
