Three year old HK DVD25 player. I have played 100's of DVDs without a problem. Last weekend I had two new dvds (rentals) Running With Scissors and Marie Antonette turn off the dvd player after going through the reading cycle. I e-mailed HK and they think that there must be some newer codes on these disks that the player is not picking up. Anyone have other ideas?

Just discovered the same problem with a brand new Casino Royale dvd. Email support says the same thing. Considering it plays perfectly on my laptop (Apple Powerbook) and my crappy Samsung player as well, I don't buy that explanation.

I'm going to call their tech support line tomorrow.

It's a form of anti piracy garbage that is more than likely causing these issues with the newer Sony releases. Casino Royale, Running With Scissors, and another recent title had a lot of extra .vts files that were troublesome for some people who were trying to back up their discs (for whatever reason that may be). Casino Royale played fine in my Denon 2200 (although it made a lot of odd noises while playing the previews), but it would not play in my Sony 995 megachanger (odd since the player and the disc are Sony products). The Sony would read the disc and then shut off.

We have two Sony DVP-NS9100s and neither one will play the movie "the Holiday". Both players flash "READING" for a while then power off. Any one else seeing this?

Yep, my Sony DVD megachanger has the problem with the holiday. it's fine with casino royale (I put both in at the same time and then switched them in/out to figure out which one was causing the problem).

It's fine in my single disk panasonic player (I don't have the model number to hand).
