I just ordered a new PS3 and should have it in 2 days :D :D :D here's my question..
I own a pannasonic plasma tv model # TH-42PD25 and would like to know will I have any problems hooking the PS3 up to this plasma, I've heard some things that it must be 60mhz or more.. does anyone know if this plasma will be okay? thanks for the help sorry if this has been gone over before, I did search but could not find the answers..

one other thing I want a new dvd player as mine just broke should I just use the PS3 as my regular player or would it be better to purchase a dvd player just for movies? and if yes any sugestions as to what kind for around $100.. kinda broke after the PS3.. I heard the upscaling kind is good... anyways thanks again for any replys... ;) ;)

It has both HDMI and Component inputs, so you shouldn't have any problems hooking it up. Only possible issue I would note is that it is only EDTV (852x480), so you'll only be able to display content in 480p.

It's a hardware issue. Your plasma can't support the resolution.

It's like trying to get your monitor to display a higher resolution than it can support.

Either it won't give you the option, or it obscures the picture.

ps3 will work great as dvd player, just get remote for 25$ to make it easier...

While the physical resolution of the screen does play a role in PQ, esspecially with regards to clarity, it's actually a myth that an ED TV such as yours won't benefit from HD sources. The PQ will be quite a bit better on a Blu-Ray movie vs DVD, or on games playing 720p or 1080i vs games at 480p.

The only thing I'm worried about for you is that a few of the early generation Panasonics couldn't support a 720p. I would check in the manual that 720p is supported.

ya I believe on my edtv panny the 720 is not available.. so do think I'll still be able to get the 1080i ? I know, I know.. kinda excited.... just might have to sell this panny and upgrade to a new 50 hdtv... when the $$ comes back that is... ;) ;)

thanks for the info :)

If money is tight, I'd save the $ for a new HDTV (at least 720P) than wasting it on a cheap DVD player.. your PS3 can play standard DVD.

You won't have a problem, 480p should look pretty good for now.

If money is tight you can go to one of those discount warehouses like Costco or BJ's and I've already seen projector hdtvs 50"s and over for ~$1k now.

I had a 42" ED plasma which I played all the next gen game systems on and watch HDTV on it and everything looked great. I had everything set to 720p though (except the Wii of course) and when I set the PS3 to 1080i for playing Blu-ray is when I started to notice the short coming because text became to small and pixelated. Movies and games looked generally good for the most part but I could still see some jaggies from time to time due to the downconversion. I finally upgraded to a 57" 1080p DLP last friday and the pixelation and jaggis are gone of course, but I do miss the pop to the picture/color my plasma had.

You can use 1080i as default and then the few games that don't support it you can drop down to 480p and it'll still be alright, so no need to worry about the PS3. I agree with everyone else, the 50" is a great value now. If you already have a surround sound system you can get the industrial version with no speakers for $1800 at Visual Apex, a forum sponsor.

alright I got my new PS3 and man , the Kidz love it... ;) :p .. okay me too... I have it on 1080i and the games look great and watched a regular dvd on it and even the picture compared to my 2 year old panasonic dvd player seemed much better!! The only thing is when I get on the website on the PS3 the text is very small and pixelated to where when I sit 6 ft away ... most of the smaller print is way unreadable... haven't tried the 480p yet.. maybe it will look better...

thanks again
