View Full Version : New Resistance Content in April

This was a newsweek article with Phil Harrison....

Absolutely. We're going to release additional content for Resistance. I don't think we've gone into detail on the schedule, but we have some really, really cool things that will be extending the story, extending the locations, some brand new content, starting in April. So if that works well and is well-received by the audience, then that will keep the engagement with game going between now and should there be a sequel at some point in the future.

I can't wait. I hope they would at least include 1 extra level, few more weapons.

It seems this new content is a testing bed for the sequel. I wonder how the stories will continue... Didn't we destroy the Chimeran?

Anyway, here's what I am hoping for (gameplay tweaks): in no particular order...

1. Infinite weapons / ammo mode for those who have beaten the game every way possible.
2. Online Co-Op mode
3. Chimeran mode (give us a level or two playing Chimeran missions), as they've done in Halo2.
4. More multiplayer maps!

Online co-op would go a long way towards making it a better game. R:FoM seems very "lonely" playing the campaign after R6 and GoW.

It would be very fun. Also, to make it realistic, I hope they would give you an option (in any game modes) to turn friendly fire on or off.

Neat.

I still want online co-op and mouse/keyboard support before I decide on buying this game.

Nice... I read that interview on IGN where it was hinted at downloadable content added to the game.. This just increases the value of an already excellent game!

I agree. You should get the game and play it! It a great game. I wouldn't hold your breath on the keyboard and mouse support though..., as they are typically seen as unfair advantage to have in the multiplayer environment where the majority of the players are using keyboard and mouse.

I disagree with this belief though... First of all, once you get used to the controller, it's not that bad. As far as the movement of the player goes, the controller definitely has the advantage. The only advantage of the mouse is with the quick looks, and more accurate / precise aiming.

Still, they should've provided this support. If other players deem this to be unfair, then it's as simple as adding a feature to allow / disallow keyboard / mouse support during the game.

When will these developer stop playing the big brother, and give the people 'Choices!'

perhaps you could help me along here, but the online portion is fun, but there is only so much I can take . Running around trying to shoot as many people as possible in the free for all is a good rush, but the fun doesnt last like it would in the old SoCom games on PS2 where it was more strategy then shoot em up before they shoot you..

So what am I missing here?

I guess I am asking, what about the online portion is so fun for you? What options are you selecting, boards are you running and game types do you like so much?

You're playing the wrong online games. The 16p CTF games I've played have been some of the most strategic and rewarding games I've played, ever.

Do you have a headset? Getting a headset and playing with a group of experienced players is an awesome experience.

The problem is that I played a lot of FPS DM games in college and am a bit bored of it. Especially with the trend of slowing the FPS genre down some.

Quake was, and still is in my opinion, the best online DM game out there. Quake 2 was alright, but it needed mods to make it enjoyable for me (loved Action Quake and DDay mods for Quake 2...ended up playing those mods for almost 4 years). There were others I played, which were fun but ultimately got bored of it. It just seemed like they were slowing the games down too much.

I played Resistance co-op, but it still seemed too slow for me. I don't see Resistance DM being that much faster.

Over the years, I guess my taste started gravitating to team-based co-op. CTF games were fun for awhile, but I realized that a lot of people (including myself) were still treating it as a team DM game with a flag someone would occasionally attempt to grab.

No matter how high you crank the look sensitivity of the console controller, you just can't match the movement/look speed and precision of a mouse. But the keyboard has a distinct advantage that the controller does not have: the ability to use all 5 digits of my left hand vs. the thumb/index/middle finger of the controller. I love the ability to assign weapons to different keys around my movement keys, or, in the case of Rainbow Six games, the plethora of action keys that are required to do anything.

I wish they would add the ability to run in single player mode like it is in multiplayer online.

Also, I wish they would allow you to pass the flag off to a team mate who is running with you or protecting you like a relay.

They already listened to my requests for online multiplayer to allow human vs human and vice versa.

You can turn on "flag transfers" which allows someone to pick up the flag of a fallen teammate.

asong26,

I just don't see them adding online Co-Op after the fact. It would be incredibly cool and I would even pay a small fee to download such an add-on. But I just don't think that it would be an easy add-on.

I look forward to games that will have online co-op modes (like Mercenaries 2 and Army of Two). As long as they are full co-op modes of the whole game and not specially made up levels (like GRAW or Saints Row).

I agree, I came from playing a lot of PC FPS and I just couldnt have fun playing Resistance online. I could never be precise or fast enough when it came to aiming.

last time i checked, the most popular FPS online games out there are just running around trying to shoot as many people as possible =)

I hope they enable 1080p since the PS3 can't scale 720p -> 1080i.

Playing a PS3 game in 480p is nothing less than a bummer.

I like those two levels, so hopefully they are good online. The snow level could be a great area for team matches. Indoor level could be great for deathmatch/conversion.

It's nice to see that a company is actually taking use of the features provided by the console(d/l content). Insomniac and Naughty Dog are great companies. Insom=R&C,RFOM,Spyro ND=Crash,Drake's Fortune

It was mentioned somewhere, the Fullmoon podcast I think, that it would be a mix of indoor and outdoor areas.

This is great news since I love playing Resistance. Just a couple quick questions...

Headset
Ok, I picked up a headset last week and I hear people occasionally say something like, "take that" and "die bastard" and...well, you know the rest. However, I don't hear anyone discussing team strategy. Anyway, who are those people I hear talking? Am I hearing ALL the banter ~or~ am I just hearing the chatter between my TEAM?

Co-OP
My daughter and I love playing Co-OP, but I can't stand the split screen. Since we have two PS3s, it would be excellent to play full-screen Co-Op either online or offline. Since we'll still be playing cooperative, is there anyway to run Resistance entirely off the hard disk (and not violate copyright) so I don't have to buy a 2nd copy?

With a team game you only hear your teammates. You can press L3 to speak to the entire team or pick a squad (press start) to talk freely to members of that squad without hitting the L3 button. In the lobby you press L3 to talk to everyone.

Co-Op
Sorry, no can do. Co-Op only works on one system. The only thing you could do with another PS3 is to play in online matches together. It is the only flaw with this game. I would love to be able to play Co-Op online with some of the people around here. :(

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I managed to beat the singleplayer game, but no matter how used to the controller I get, it still seems more a chore to play FPS on a controller. I am not breaking Resistance out, until a Mouse+KB patch comes out, or, when this is released:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/21/splitfish-announces-fragfx-mouse-controller-for-ps3/

While I would prefer a Keyboard to the side attachment, the mouse would go a long way to me feeling comfortable playing FPS on the PS3. I really wish the devs would give us the choice of controls, rather than making the choice for us. They could easily segregate KB+Mouse users if it was that much a problem.

You will get more control with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse...but the PS3 controller works good with resistance.

This is in addition to soho54s post above...
You can also 'change squad' when playing Team Based games. As soon as the game starts hit Start and Change Squad. Pick the channel that you want. On these channels, you don't have to hit L3 to chat....anytime you talk it will be broadcast to those on your Squad. If you do hit L3 though, everyone on your team (Blue or Orange) will hear. Hope I made sense....;)

Agreed! If you want mouse and keyboard support I would of took that $600 and got an 8800GTX vid card instead of a PS3.

Also as for the debate of which is better mouse/keyboard or controller, we will see in May with the launch of Games For Windows Live which will let you play crossplatform against console gamers (Xbox only).
