If a MythTV box uses an old RealMagic DVD MPEG2 decoder card for video output, do the menus and other GUI graphics appear on the Svideo output of the RealMagic card, or do you need to use the Svideo out from a standard AGP video card for the GUI, and the Realmagic for video playback?

Unless something has changed recently, that card is not supported at all.

I think there's support for the PVR-350 that works in that manner, but it won't be supported for long.

I just found that out doing some googling- I pledge to google before I ask ;)

Years ago, the Realmagic cards were popular on low end machines for media playback, but with low cost video accelerated AGP video cards like Radeon 9xxx or Nvidia 5xxx series cards that work with XvMC, I guess the old realmagic cards no longer make any sense to use. Just thought I could use one sitting in a drawer ;).

Have a look on http://dxr3.sourceforge.net/ ... you might still find some other use for the card

Nice find. Thanks.

...and I was about to toss the 5 HW+/DXR3 cards I have into the can ;)

To clarify, my ulterior motive was to build a MythTV box with spare P3 hardware, and use a PVR150 (hardware MPEG2 encoder) plus HW+ (hardware MPEG2 decoder) and have the equivalent of a PVR350...
