View Full Version : Black Hawk Down Vs. MI3
bigphill911 02-27-07, 06:36 PM Well guys I am trying to decide which movie to get next. The reason I'm choosing between these 2 is because I can get Black Hawk Down for $10 from buy.com using Google checkout and I can get Mission impossible 3 for $10 after using buy.com discount and mail in rebate that came with my PS3. Let me know which one you guys think I should get. If it matters my setup is a 32" Westinghouse LTV-32W6, Logitech Z5500 Surround, Blu-ray via PS3 through HDMI.
Both are great movies and both look great. Tough choice! I give BHD the nod simply cause its stood the test of time.... sort of.
provenflipper 02-27-07, 06:42 PM Any reason not to buy both?
eightninesuited 02-27-07, 06:42 PM Blackhawk Down has better picture, sound and is a better movie.
But MI3 has that hot Liv Tyler lookalike who will be my wife in the coming months.
bigphill911 02-27-07, 06:53 PM Well I would get both buy I can't get the google discount on buy.com more then once can I?
jnorton1 02-27-07, 07:00 PM You can use different email address. I have used it three times obvioulsy your not suppose to but oh well. Register as a new user.

I completely agree. Though both are worth owning IMO.
bigphill911 02-27-07, 07:14 PM I'll prolly end up just getting both then and just use different email addresses. I wish you wouldn't have said that I see a lot of blu-ray purchases in my future if I can use that $10 discount multiple times! :)

That is a real interesting statement. I have MI3 on HD-DVD and BHD on blu-ray and MI3 is a lot better quality.

I'd have to say they are quite comparable, with any edge that MI3 has owing to the fact that it's a much newer film, and it has a much more "available" color palette.
You can't really go wrong with either one as far as PQ is concerned, but it's kinda silly to call one or the other "a lot" better.
cdhender 02-27-07, 07:51 PM both.
RobertR1 02-27-07, 07:54 PM BHD has a lot of inconsistant parts mainly due to the amount of heavy grain present in a lot of movie. From a pure PQ perspective, MI:3 is a better choice.
BHD as the better disc and movie

Her name is Michelle Monaghan.......and how can she be your future wife when she's already mine? ;)
Malcolm_B 02-27-07, 09:06 PM BHD....no question.
Because I couldn't stand MI3
svalentine 02-27-07, 09:18 PM Personally I didn't think the Black Hawk Down transfer was all that great. I really don't like the grainy feel to it, even if it was intentional.
Donnie Eldridge 02-27-07, 09:32 PM Avoid the headache and get both.
bigphill911 02-27-07, 09:37 PM HaHa since they are cheap I will probably go ahead and get both. Let me tell you high def is an expensive hobby for a 17 year old haha. Now if only I would have waited and got a larger 1080p tv... I feel so out of date with my Westinghouse Ltv-32w6 and cheap $250 Logitech z-5500 5.1 surround when most of you have 40" or larger 1080p tvs with HDMI 7.1 Setups...
luigionlsd 02-27-07, 09:58 PM I'm gonna be 18 next week, and I'll be buying a PS3... probably not BHD for a little bit, since Terminator 2 is calling my name at Target for $20, and Casino Royale is the following week. I've got a modest 30" 1080i CRT, but it definitely does me fine. I personally prefer the picture quality over my friend's 56" Samsung DLP. I've got the 360 HD DVD addon right now, so I'll be format neutral pretty soon!!!
Edit: for the topic at hand, I'd go with Black Hawk Down. Soley based on movie qualities, I'd much rather watch BHD than M:I:III (have seen both). BHD also seems to have M:I:III beaten in PQ too!
talbain 02-27-07, 11:58 PM the thing about black hawk down is that it's the theatrical release version. the movie has been released several times on several dvds with the director's cut. this means you know a new version is inevitable...

Yep. Waiting for the Director's cut.
Htdude14 02-28-07, 12:00 PM BOTH. I have MI3 on HD DVD and BHD on BD and they are both great action flicks. My nod would go to BHD if I had to choose though. "hey grinds you ok" :D
That's for the info. about BHD.....I'm buying it today.
