Citing technical difficulties Fox and MGM Home Entertainment have revised their Blu-ray Disc release schedules for March and April, with all but two titles now postponed to as yet unknown future dates. The titles which remain on schedule and will appear on 13th March 2007 are Hoosiers and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The titles no longer set to appear in March are: Dances with Wolves, The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), Ice Age, Dodgeball and Commando. The fate of From Hell (which was rescheduled for March) is also unknown at this time.

The full April slate has been removed from the schedule, which includes: Dude, Where’s My Car?, The Fly (1986), Me, Myself and Irene, Tristan & Isolde, Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs. New release Turistas is also off the schedule. Original specs for these titles can be found here, with details on Turistas here.

All titles are still expected to appear on Blu-ray Disc at some point this year, with a revised schedule for April expected soon.

It does look more and more like these are going to be the anti-winDVD releases.

It is old news, but it sure would have been nice for them to release more during this time period since HD-DVD has next to nothing coming out... The studios flooding the market with BR releases now is the best thing that can happen for BR other than price reductions (and this is happening).

maybe they are holding them back because, Fox releases has been pretty crappy. wouldn't be surprised if they are remastering them.

They may've simply scaled back the overall number of releases as the current numbers of new Blu Ray releases are so high for Blu Ray vs. HD DVD that any more would be overkill at this point. Likely they are going to spread out the vast number of new releases over a longer time period to keep the crippling pressure on HD DVD (as their new releases are essentially nil relative to Blu Ray).

The last wave of Fox titles were really bad. However long it takes to make sure future releases don't look like Planet of the Apes is fine with me.

This isn't a big surprise. This happened for years when DVD came out. I had to return a number of titles because of bad discs, and numerous releases were postponed because of production issues. In fact, it still happens on occation with standard DVD. If it takes 6 months to correct, that might have some impact. But in the meantime, not surprising, nor a big deal.

This delay may be associated with BD-J problems...
