So my 6yr old nephew was over last weekend to watch some movies.
We watched "Flushed Away". In the first few minutes of the DVD there was a total fade to black.
My room has total light control.. Is painted dark red... And the screen wall, surrounding area, and ceiling are black.
Right when the fade to black happened he shouts out
"Ahh I CAN'T SEE THE SCREEN"
:D :D :D As I silently giggle to myself with the trademark evil laugh...
Priceless!

One of my friend's 4 year old daughters got scared watching a movie in our theater because she couldn't see anything when a fade to black happened.
LOL, I never thought of digital as the "family friendly" choice--projector and night light in one easy to use package! :D

News Flash: Typical 6 year old more intelligent that average DLP/LCD owner! :D
Funny, same thing here... big fades to black and my 3 year cries out "too dark!". :)

My 6 year old niece took the opportunity to disappear. I turned around on the lounge when the scene changed and she was gone, and then jumped out from behind me and almost wet herself when I screamed!

Yeah the best part of CRT, IS when there is no picture........ When there ISN'T supposed to be a picture! :D
One thing for sure.... I'd rather have no picture when appropriate rather than a wonderful touch of illuminated gray

So the best part of digital is getting to look at a picture when there shouldn't be one. Great feature.

It sounds like the best part of CRT is the ability to display nothing? I have plenty of things that can do this, including my coffee mug sitting on my desk. You guys wouldn't BELIEVE the black level that this baby throws out! Unfortunately when there is supposed to be a picture, it falls a little flat. If you want that part of the movie to look good (honestly, how often does it really happen anyway!?!) then I recommend a CRT or perhaps DLP/LCOS projector.
But for the best performance in blackout scenes, go with the coffee mug. Beats the CRT in image quality AND it doesn't make any noise with high WAF.
Think he missed the point lol.

Interesting, your coffee mug shares its full fade to black with a CRT and its crappy picture with a digital projector. Interesting coffee mug.

That's already a given when he chose digital ;)
