I'd be shocked if anyone here were to know the exact day of the big update.

Rumors had it at March 3rd.

I don't see anything of real value that is rumored to be included in this update.

I am waiting for background loading and the ability to charge your controller even when the system is off.

These are basic features which should have been there since day one.

gamelover -- Do you mean 'off' as in back power switch off?

And I had heard that background downloading would be enabled in the March update.

March 23rd is the most likely release date for Update 1.6 (which as you say is also the Euro PS3 launch date).

Update 1.6 is rumored to include DTS-MA audio support (for Blu-ray movies), as well as background downloading, among other things.

Early reports are saying background downloading does not continue when you are playing a game. Only when in the 'dash' listening to music, browsing, etc.

Playing any game or just pausing when you are playing a game online?

This FUD was put to rest by Phil Harrison himself at the D.I.C.E show when he said, and then showed, that background downloading can run while playing a game by downloading a song from the PSN network and simultaneously switching to the Singstar game and back to the download progress.

I hope so. I was throwing that out there for 2 reasons. One, it's in the rumour mill again today making the rounds, and secondly, to see if anyone had any more info about it. Apperantly Sony has said this is incorrect, but one or two folks with the update are saying it stops during any gameplay, not just online.

Granted, there's still lots of time to correct, even if this was actually true today.

No one has the 1.6 update yet. You're thinking of the 1.54 update that came out today that doesn't support background downloading.

nobody has the update, they are just speculating, like everyone else.

No, I'm almost certain there has been at least one report of someone running a 1.6 update. Obviously not the final at this stage, but probably close to it.

I'm hoping it's not true as well and not trying to spread stupid rumours. It was just in the news a couple places. Odds are this feature will work properly and it's just some waster chatter for a couple days. No biggie.

While it was posted today, it is from a meeting nearly a month ago. Probably just some old news that's already been squashed.

you can charge the controller when the system is off. just plug it into a powered usb port on 1) your keyboard 2) your pc 3) your set top box for your cable company or your satellite provider 4) a standard wall usb charger (like for an ipod)...

come on man i have many issues with the system as well, but this is NOT one of them...
