It has been three long years, with lots of blood, sweat and tears (literally), but it is finally done! My dream of having a dedicated home theater has become a reality!

Of course I could not have done it without the help of AVSforum. It has been my learning tool, my idea “generator” and most importantly my inspiration. Thank you all whose ideas and suggestions helped me get through this daunting task. With a few minor exceptions, I completed all the work myself. I suppose that explains the three years, but that did include the entire basement. Plus it's hard when you only work one day a week. In any case, thanks again for all who contributed.

Most everything was built in the traditional manner. The room is 24x13 with batting and linacoustic on the walls covered in GOM. The screen is a Carada 106” with a panasonic ax100 projector. The sound is by JBL Northridge with bass shakers in the front row.

Thanks again.
Oleg

Congrats. My build schedule will be similar to your I imagine. Three years seems like an eternity, but I have to imagine the pay-off is amazing. Your place looks great!

omudrick,

What made you decide on the light blue color for the ceiling? Not that I'm an expert but I've never seen anyone pick that bright of a color.

Otherwise...congrats....but is a DIY theater ever really finished?

Thanks everyone. An yes, I suppose it is never finished. I am still tweaking things here and there. As far as the blue color on the ceiling, I think the picture is a bit misleading. It is not that light, it looks greay when the lights are off. Actually, I think I got the idea from the Kirk Theater here on the forum. I believe it was called Milano Blue.

Congrats!! Your HT looks great. I bet you're relieved to finally watch movies.

What aspect ratio did you use for your screen? 1.78, 2.35, etc? And how far is your first row viewing distance?

The aspect ratio is 1.78:1, the first row is about 12 feet from the screen.
Yes, it's a big relief. Although after three long years, I find myself with nothing to do!?!

Just a thought: enter theater, hang a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door and WATCH MOVIES!!!!! until your eyes swell shut! :) Or you could get someone to post some links to all the threads where AVSers completed their theaters only to rip them right back out and start again.

Seriously though, enjoy it. It is a great looking theater (really like the carpet).

Great job. I like the curtains and sconces. What did you do for HT cooling? I have a similar sized theater room but haven't figured out reasonable cooling solution.

Thanks. Yes, I should just start enjoying it. My wife says I need to learn how to relax.

Cooling? Honestly, I didn't do anything special. I have a single register, and a single return. It's in a basement, a deep one, so it's pretty cool in the room. I am in Chicago, so right now it's actually down right freezing, but nothing a few blankets can't solve.

The equipment rack is opne in the back (swing door), and I left plenty of room between shelves, so it should be OK.

RobZ,

Sconces are from Home Depot ($40), curtains are from Velveteen from Overstock.com ($35). Can't beat it...

Lookin' Good! I feel the same about AVSFORUM. I couldn't have finished my theater room without all the info from the vast knowledge available from the collective technodudes on this forum, either.

Are the curtains motorized? If so, where did you get the hardware?

Great job on the theater! My theater will be similar size as yours. 12'-4" x 24'.

I will be using the exact same sconces (9) in my theater. Click on my username to get the link to my theater construction pics.

ryansprance,

The curtains are motorized. I got the hardware on ebay, about $125.
The remore never worked (there is a manual control), and it's a bit flimsy, but it does the job.

Dan_J_H,

Looking good, you'll be there before you know it.
