Vtf-2 mk2 is en route.
This is for a dedicated projection room 95% movies/tv.
I am upgrading from a polk 8" which is too weak.
I wanted to stay at $400 or below before shipping and this was accomplished. However after a quick email from Dr. Hsu it seems maybe i should have added to my budget and gotten the vtf-3 mk2.

The roomis right about 3,000 Cu ft. The sub will be located within about 8' of the seating area. Hsu web site says this sub should work for up to 3,000cuft room.

I know it will be an upgrade from the current sub but I was hoping to be able to "feel" the sub more than before. Do you think this sub will do it?

After the email from the good Dr. I am seriously thinking I did not order enough horsepower.

Thanks,

If it is already on the way, why not try it out. I believe you could still return it if it does not meet your expectations. One thing for sure though, it is going to be much better than the Polk you are using.

If your room doesn't have large openings to other rooms such as a kitchen,
living room etc., then you should be OK.

Dr Hsu sometimes recommends usually a little more sub than you need.
I origonally had a VTF-2 (bought in 1999) and it was a great sub and all
but my home theater (about the same size as yours) was 3/4 open to the
kitchen, and there was a large opening to the living room. So after a few
weeks I bought a second VTF=2 for greater quantity of base. I am lucky
to be close to the HSU headquaters in Anehiem so I could pick up the sub
myself (no shipping).

When you get the sub, give it a try....I'm pretty sure you'll like it, and if
it isn't putting out enough base to fill your room return it for a VTF-3 MKII,
or a VTF-2 MKIII........best of luck, vardo

Since it's on the way already try it as there is a 30-day in-home trial period. Just make sure your subwoofer is properly placed and calibrated before you make any decisions. If you don't think it gets loud enough, then you can return it and get the VTF-3.

I agree. I would like to also add that it may take a couple of weeks for break in. If you are not satisfied with the results after you set it up, tweak it, and break it in, exchange it. Tom Nousaine tested a old VTF2 in his 7500 cu ft room and it produced an average 107 db spl, running in the low 90's at 20hz in the extended tune mode.

I probably would have splurged for the 2.3 or even the 3.2.

The 12inch woofer makes a difference....especially in the extention region for the HSU subs...

The good news is you can try out the cheaper model first.....if you need more I'm sure HSU will take care of making an exchange, especially since you would be going with a more expensive model....

Thanks for the responses.
The room is a all sealed with only one door.
I know its going to be upgrade from my current sub.
Funny thing is the polk sub sounded better in our Livingroom which is way bigger with openings all over it.

I will try it out and than return/upgrade if needed. I will also look into DIY bass traps which I know will help.

Jonathan, put your sub nearfield (next to your sofa). It'll give you more slam.
