View Full Version : The ONE and ONLY BluRay vs HD-DVD thead
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 09:41 PM The Format War and AVS Fourm
I ask the AVS fourm for freedom of speech. I ask for one and only one thead to deal with the reality of the Bluray vs Hd-Dvd war that exists. I ask to be able to attack both weakness of either format. In the past my negitive comments have been erased but my prasie remains. Why not have ONE thead where we can let it all hang out...Blue Ray vs Hd-dvd and dont count out HD-DVD I was shocked to lean that my costo in Carlsbad Calif to see a "stack of HD-dvd players the hd-a2 for under $450( exact price pm me).
Look we cannot have a "head in the ground " mentality when it comes to what is going on, Sony coming out with a 599 player this summer to combat the low entry price of the A-2, there are many factors....I just want to see if the fourm will erase this post or have the courage to face and deal with format war.
eric10301 02-28-07, 09:47 PM Well for starters its bluray with no e.
tlreddragon 02-28-07, 09:49 PM And it's HD DVD. (no dash)
sethhobrin 02-28-07, 09:50 PM What is this HD DVD you speak of?
TwinTurboZX 02-28-07, 09:51 PM Read my sig, thread over!

Yeah, blueraye is so lame!
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 10:01 PM Costo is BIG Dude, they are not at this time carrying Blue Ray with no plans in the future which gives hd-dvd a big edge....next we will see if they carry software...
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 10:07 PM Yeah, blueraye is so lame!
That is freedom of speech, it might not be the smartest statement in the world, but it is refreshing to get any view, by the way I own both formats and lean towards Bluray as a better player in terms of video performance as 4 out of my top 5 high def discs are Bluray.
MidnightWatcher 02-28-07, 10:08 PM Edited: Oops, forgot this was the Blu-ray forum! :o

You do understand that there is no freedom of speech at a privately held forum, right? If the owners of AVS said you weren't allowed to use any pronouns in your posts, they would be perfectly in their right to delete your account if you use pronouns and it still wouldn't infringe on any "freedom of speech."
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 10:25 PM Read MY sig, WAR over!!!
I understand your postion, but kindly go to highdefdigest.com and look at reality.
That is the month of March for Bluray and the month of March for HD-DVD...it looks really bad hd-dvd and I will make a prediction that softwares sales will be up on Bluray by 3 to one over hd-dvd with Bond and a large number of releases. Those sales will in turn create a wave that will be impossible to over come. Look at the list and tell me what you think :D

We already know whats being released for Blu-ray and HD DVD in the coming months. Why you acting like your so god damned superior when this is common knowledge around here?

Its only big in certain areas. Ive never even heard of it until i got on this forum. I live in Daytona Beach Florida so its not like I live somewhere small.

Sure within limits, but the fomat war is BIG NEWS,not since VHS and Beta has something like this come about. This is the AVS Forum, the best in the world. We should be at the forfront of the this battle, we should be able to debate the good, bad or ugly about the "ISSUE" of 2006 and 2007 Besides we are the EARLY ADOPTORS...the guys that pay 1499 for a bluray player.

!. This isn't the most unimportant crap going on the world, but it's close.
2. Does anyone else find it ironic that your nick is "bladerunner" and you're a Bluray fanboi?

$1499 is not unimportant, its big bucks and originally I was a hd-dvd fan and then went to the "dark side" because of performance issues on the A-1
ottscay 02-28-07, 10:39 PM That's not ironic, it's just what happened.

Blade Runner is a Warner title...it will be out on BD.
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 10:50 PM its pretty good on sd-dvd, the cleaned up version and looks good upconverted, but I cant wait
Slim GoodBooty 02-28-07, 10:53 PM Blade Runner is a Warner title...it will be out on BD.
Not announced for BD yet from what I have seen, but yeah, you're right.

I haven't bought it yet. It comes down to this. If it is on both formats and all is equal I'll get the HD-DVD as the menu system and such kill BD. If the HDDVD is a combo, I'll buy the BD. I suspect it will be a THD title and that means I will buy it even though I hate flippers. Maybe it'll be on HBO before then and I'll just make my own.
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 10:56 PM I have a question, Is the WAR OVER...just look at what is ahead for BR vs Hd-dvd on the software front as well as 1.8 million ps3 sold and stacks and I mean stacks of them available at frys for list price.
nick2010 02-28-07, 11:00 PM "Blu-ray Disc" is spelled with a hyphen, while "HD DVD" is not.

The "war" is just getting started. This is like a football game. Both sides are going to play the whole game, not call it after someone scores a field goal in the first 5 minutes. Sony didn't quit when Toshiba was killing them and Toshiba isn't going to quit after taking a hit in Jan-Feb. Even if/when one side does win, you and I really won't win anything. I have a strange feeling that both are going to be footnotes in the video world as the public already thinks they have HD discs and aren't ready to pay more to get a different version.

I personally just spell them both in random ways so that I'm right in everyone's book a few times...

Not true if mainline stores such as Costo and Circuit City which have come on board for hd-dvd, this could be a problem for BR unless they rush out the 500 player, but at that time hd-dvd is saying they are going to have a 199 or 299 player out, if I had to speculate the Costo and CC buyer were promised high allocations of the cheap players...watch out...
bladerunner7 02-28-07, 11:36 PM So far so good, all good posts, we can do this, one fly we really need a under 500 player NOW and not the non-upconverting ps3, and by the way if anybody owes one is it hdmi 1.3?? and will the new shipment of the pioneer BR player have any updates on it...This war is going to cost one side a lot of waste and money on a dead machine and dead software and there can only be one winner and one loser.

BR must really suck then! If 1.8 Million PS3s have been sold, thats 1.8 MILLION Blu-Ray players...and Blu-Ray software just recently caught up to the paltry HD-DVD Player total sales. Kinda funny, didn;t Sony recently say 80% of all PS3 owners buy BR discs? That means WAY over a million BR discs SHOULD be sold if1 BR movies is sold to each of that 80%...but we know most people own multiples...hmmmm.....
Sony and their funny numbers.
Could someone who knows where the edge that blade is living on please give him a nudge?
If this post is deemed useless, forgive me, I was simply keeping in the spirit of this thread.

markrubin 03-01-07, 08:54 AM Carnac says this thread cannot end well...so it will end early
There was a reason the format battles were split up into 5 forums
Thanks
