I am running a whole house A/V system out of a media closet in the basement that I am finishing. Basement will have A theater also. As of right now I will not be useing hdmi, only because I am waiting for recievers with HDMI to come down in price. So I will be useing componet video. Some of the runs throught my conduit {6 runs of 2 in.} will be around 70-100 ft. Can I build my own quality componet video with rg6? Just untill I replace it with HDMI? Also I thought I read That you can build HDMI with 2 cat5 cables? Is this true? What is the quality of the "homemade" HDMI? Thanks in advance!

Not sure about using Cat5 for HDMI runs, but I've used numerous runs of RG6 for component cables. You can do it a couple of ways. 1)Buy inexpensive F connectors and tool to finish off the cable. Then buy screw-in RCA plugs that connect to the F connector. 2)Buy RCA connectors for RG6. The connectors are just as inexpensive as the F connectors, but the tool is significantly more.
