Not sure where to post this, but has anyone have any experience with Divx format files burned to DVD on their pc and then take the dvd and playback on divx capable dvd player?

What precisely do you see? Is it a more viable playback in terms of video quality or is the only advantage compression? What about the Divx 4+ formats? According to the Divx wiki it can go to 720p. Is the resolution better than recorded 480i when playing back these divx video files on divx capable dvd player?

Also can these dvd recorders that are divx capable, is it playback only or can they also record in that format?

HDTV encoded with XVID puts out a very nice picture. My Panny e100 does mpeg4 but its very low resoultion, thus worthless. It would be nice to have a HQ DIVX, xvid, or mpeg4 capable standalone DVD recorder. I encode music videos captured with my E100 in the SP mode with the XVID codec on my PC. Kinda a pain. I record the vids to DVD RAM, then move them over to the PC and encode to XVID using a Freeware Program called AVIDemux. I used to use virtual Dub, but avidemux does a great job and much easier. Head on over to videohelp.com, all you ever wanted to know about mpge4 with great guides.

I use MPEG4 compression to save space on my PC that I stream the vids on my media server (linkplayer 2) to my home theater. Thus I can access the vids by group without having to put in a DVD to watch music. Its kinda the MP3 or Itunes with music vids. Mostly classic rock.

Panasonic EH75V plays HQ Divx very well with a file selection menu displayed. DVD recorders can only typically play Divx/Mpeg4 not record. The E100 noted above is an exception, but as posted the video and audio (lofi mono) are subpar.
