The day I have been waiting for has arrived - the date when DVD recorders are supposed to have digital tuners if they have any tuner at all. I looked on the BB web site and don't see any. I prefer to buy one in a brick and mortar store. Are they in stock at the big chain stores yet? Anybody know?

I thought someone mentioned Walmart had the Phillips one "in-store", but I could be thinking of an earlier post where someone said they were stacked in the back room.

I looked at their web site, but it does not match what you can get at your local store.

P.S. -- I think that Mar 1 date is mfg, not sales, e.g. - it's OK to still sell old stock.

There's no FCC police out there to enforce any of this - stuff will just slowly trickle into the system.

I thought it ment that companies could'nt be making or importing any that had just analog NTSC tuners in them anymore & that it had nothing to do with selling what was already on hand, in warehouse's or in shipment?

Am I wrong?

Mostly right.

The FCC Rule only affects "Responsible Parties," which are mfgrs, assemblers and importers, and it only prohibits Interstate Shipment or importing by those resp. parties of units WITH TV TUNERS if at least one tuner is not ATSC. The rule doesn't apply to anyone else nor to units w/o any tuners.

So, essentially, stores and other sellers are not bound by the rule.

I just stopped in Wally World, BB, and CC. Nothing. Only thing I noticed is a couple of recorders with NTSC tuners had stickers on the boxes informing the consumer that the tuner would be obsolete in Feb 2009.

Actually, someone posted that a local Wal*Mart somewhere in Florida
had the new Philips DVDR3505\37 which has a digital tuner but no hard drive.
There's a link in that post to download the manual.
I'm much more interested in the Philips DVDR3575\37 which will have a
160 GB HD but the release date is as yet unknown.

I just stopped by our local Walmart on the way home for grins (I don't want that model either) just to see if they had it.

Nothing -- but there were "plenty" of every NTSC flavor by every manufacturer. My guess is they want to eliminate as much old stock as possible first, as they won't be worth as much once the new models are on the shelves. It didn't seem like they were using price yet to clear anything out.

That's probably the old model with an NTSC tuner.
I saw it online somewhere yesterday.

Edit:
The one I saw was on Wal*Mart's website for $298.00.
It does have only an NTSC tuner. Here's a link. (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4922159)
