Hello. I have a Sony KD-30XS955 HDTV and I was wondering if I can use the set as a computer monitor. It has both HDMI and component inputs. I was wondering if it's possible to use the component inputs for VGA (since my computer only has a VGA card, no DVI). I have seen VGA to component cables, but I know such cables won't include the sync info required by the videocard. Is it possible to use the set as a monitor? Being an HDTV set, I would really love to use the TV as my computer monitor if, possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately only the XBR line came with a vga input. You might try a vga to component breakout cable. They are cheap and wont set you back to try. Good luck.

You probably have to upgrade your video card. That's the only surefire way.

So a videocard with a DVI output will hookup ok to an HDMI input (with the DVI to HDMI converter of course)? Even though my TV is HD, since it's a CRT, doesn't that mean the refresh rate will always have to be set at 60Hz?

I have been playing on and off with trying to do this with an ATI 9000 pro. I have not yet succeeded but frankly I have not tried excessively hard. Here is link (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=206854) on ATI issues with connecting to HDTV. The short version is maybe, some say this can be done directly others say it must be done with the "dongle." But the upshot is whatever videocard you use its a good bet that it is not just a DVI to HDMI cable issue. When and if I succeed or give up I will post here. Good Luck...

Great ! what resolutions are you having success with? With my ATI I have never finessed it to handle 1080 content, which was my ulitmate goal- I was able to handle lesser resoultions using DVI to HDMI cable.
