Hi guys, need some help from people with experience. I am stumped.

Really confused as to why all my -moderately- top of the line gear can't sync the audio with video without me having to step in and help it. Everything (including cables/wires) except the plasma (still in prime shape) is brand new.

Here is my setup:

1) Comcast Digital Cable (HD) box --> Component Video/Optical Audio --> Denon AVR-2807 -
Video Out --> HDMI cable --> Pioneer Elite PRO1130 50" plasma (external media box)
Audio Out --> 12 gauge wire --> Atlantic Technologies 4200e 5.1 speaker system

Audio appears to be least 80ms out of sync (according to my rough adjustments)

2) Toshiba HD-XA2 --> HDMI cable --> Denon AVR-2807 -
Video Out --> HDMI cable --> Pioneer Elite PRO1130 50" plasma (external media box)
Audio Out --> 12 gauge wire --> Atlantic Technologies 4200e 5.1 speaker system

Audio appears to be at least 200ms out of sync (according to my rough adjustments)

3) XBOX 360 --> Component Video/Optical Audio --> Denon AVR-2807 -
Video Out --> HDMI cable --> Pioneer Elite PRO1130 50" plasma (external media box)
Audio Out --> 12 gauge wire --> Atlantic Technologies 4200e 5.1 speaker system

Again the audio is noticeably off sync.

I am attempting to compensate for the lack of sync in the Denon's options. Using the "Audio Delay" setting for each source, however when you access the Denon's settings the video signal is replaced by the on screen menu. Thus making it additionally impossible to sync with just the audio playing and having to constantly exit the settings menu to see video again and if I am close or not. This can't be right.

HELP?

It would seem to me that your problem must lie in the Denon as all sources seem to be delayed. Normally, I find that HD sources whether cable or satellite sometimes get out of synch mostly seems to be specific to a particular channel as the switch is made from analog to digital. So, it's quite usual to find that problem from time to time. You might want to bypass the Denon and do HDMI from the comcast box to the Pioneer and see if the probem goes away - points to a bad Denon setup or a bad Denon receiver.

All of your sources seem to be off, which points to some processing in the Denon, the common component. So, first I'd make certain that you have any kind of simulated sound turned off - no "arena" settings trying to create multi channel as these can definitely cause delay. Make doubly certain that the speakers are hooked up correctly - DD movies have most of the sound in the center channel so the effects can be subtle, believe me. I have to think that you've done these checks already. You should also try to remove any other form of "processing" going on in the Denon. I'd even try to send straight stereo and see if the delay disappears.

I would definitely check with the store I bought it from (it's an expensive unit) and ask for a replacement or a service visit from them if they won't replace it. It seems unlikely that all your sources could be out of synch.

The video processing does take time. With HDMI 1.3, the receiver and display are supposed to be able to negotiate the frame delay, to get good lipsync automatically.

Btw: your Pioneer is also in the common chain, so it could be there that the delay happens, especially if audio comes before video (which one is it for you?)

I have an interesting issue. When I play a blu-ray disc in my samsung P-1200 there are serious audio delay/lip synching issues that I can't seem to straighten out. However, if I play a standard definition dvd in the same player there is no noticeable audio delay. Any idea on what my problem is? Am I going to have to change some setting depending on whether I play a dvd or bluray disc? I have the Yamaha HTR-5940.
