View Full Version : So- is your all time fav movie available on Blue Ray yet?
Steves55 03-01-07, 08:45 PM My favorite all time movie is
The Shining.
I love the soundtrack & especially the opening scene.
I must own it when it's released!
I don't care what price they release it at. The day it's available- I own it!
You?
beatboy77 03-01-07, 08:48 PM Yes, GoodFellas.
~Josh

No. Most of my all time favorites are either from dual format supporting studios or Universal. That's why I support HD DVD exclusively.
beatboy77 03-01-07, 08:49 PM No. Most of my all time favorites are either from dual format supporting studios or Universal. That's why I support HD DVD exclusively.
If you support HD-DVD exclusively, what are you doing here posting in the Blu-ray Software section?
~Josh
anavrin0901 03-01-07, 08:57 PM I heard my two favs Fight Club and Moulin Rouge are in the works hopefully this year!
SetterP 03-01-07, 09:04 PM Nope, not yet.
2001: A Space Odyssey, along with all of Kubrick's other works. Full Metal Jacket being the exception which is released on BD (although it got poor PQ and AQ ratings)
Big Fish when it comes out later this month.
michael000 03-01-07, 09:15 PM None of my favorites have seen a blu-ray release but i'd love to see any of these (in no particular order)
The Game
Carlito's Way
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
Shawshank Redemption
Rounders
Top Gun
Miracle
Man on Fire
American History X
Bombthroat 03-01-07, 09:28 PM None of mine are yet released but I have high hopes.
Tombstone
Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead
Heat
I can die happy when LOTR is released to either high def format. Next to that my biggest favorite titles that are currently release/announced are Dancing with Wolves and Open Range.
ToddUGA 03-01-07, 09:57 PM Nope, and I doubt Raiders of the Lost Ark will appear in hi-def on either format for a number of years. :(
If you support HD-DVD exclusively, what are you doing here posting in the Blu-ray Software section?
~Josh
Doesn't seem to stop you from posting all over the HD DVD forum does it? And we both know you don't personally own an HD DVD player.
Anyway I was just answering the OP's question. See you later in an HD DVD thread. Cheers.
Slim GoodBooty 03-01-07, 10:13 PM The Big Lebowski is on the other format, but there are just as many movies I want on Bluray. Fight Club would be at the top of the list.
I don't have a favorite but I eagerly awaiting Sin City.
Moulin Rouge, Apocalypse Now, Shakespeare in Love, Titanic, and Platoon would make me very happy if they came out on BR this year!
SJKurtzke 03-01-07, 10:33 PM No, I haven't seen any Star Trek yet...
And, AFAIK, there's no Buffy, Angel, X Flies, Friends, Seinfeld, or Veronica Mars on Blu-Ray either.
w1ngman 03-01-07, 10:47 PM For me there'd be a fairly long 'short list' of best-loved movies....but I reckon I have a real soft spot for Gladiator. Yeah, when that one gets in my library in hi-def, I'll be extremely happy.
darkjedi664 03-01-07, 10:48 PM Gladiator with DTS HD-MA :D
Slim GoodBooty 03-01-07, 10:52 PM When's Napoleon Dynamite hitting BD?
Yes, my favourite (The Terminator) is out on BD. Platoon might be a tie, and that will be out in the coming months.
I feel guilty having to only pick one favourite (or two, heh heh), though. I worry I'll make the other ones feel bad.
edvedder 03-01-07, 11:58 PM No. Most of my all time favorites are either from dual format supporting studios or Universal. That's why I support HD DVD exclusively.
Such vigor in your dedication to univeral, warner and the weinsteins. Too bad these same companies don't share the same dedication too you. When the time comes they will drop hddvd and go fully blu ray, leaving you with the obsolete merchandise that they would have had to absorb the cost of. I hope u have a financial adviser managing your other investments because you don't get a tax write off for the charitable donations you making to universal. Also don't give me any lip about any universal rep saying they are dedicated to hd dvd, what the hell do u expect them to say "we plan on ditching the format once our contract with Toshiba is up"- if they did that THEY would be stuck with all the costs of the unsold hddvds and those still in the manufacturing stages (massive financial losses). The longer they say they will stay with hddvd the more suckers they get to buy up the merchandise that they would otherwise loose on. They are essentially passing the cost of their poor business decisions onto you. If u like their films thats fine, just know that your die hard support is not reciprocal.
To answer the OP question
Hard to chose an all time favorite but Braveheart is high up on my list
Gladiator is high on my list as well not sure who the distributor is now (the dvd was universal). If it is still Universal i dont see it comming out anytime soon- and when it does they maybe blu by then
bart122580 03-02-07, 12:31 AM Nope, my all time fav is Pulp Fiction. I'm hoping for an announcement.
TheCuze 03-02-07, 01:16 AM Damn you New Line. Give me Magnolia and Boogie Nights!!! Also, every one of Wes Anderson's movies wouldn't hurt either, come on Buena Vista / Criterion. Also, a Before Sunrise / Before Sunset double feature would be sweet.
ChrisW6ATV 03-02-07, 01:25 AM Mine was postponed until 2009. (North by Northwest)
Nope, no LOTR yet.
Black Hawk Down ranks up there in one of my top favs though. and Kingdom of Heaven too.
goceltics34 03-02-07, 01:38 AM Not until Natural Born Killers is announced. Also Magnolia, Boogie Nights and Gladiator.
Dan Hitchman 03-02-07, 02:05 AM Jaws, E.T. (the original uncut, un-CGI, un-PC version), and Raiders of the Lost Ark are my top must-have movies.
I'll be waiting a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time for those.
Dan
koolaidguy 03-02-07, 02:18 AM nope still waiting on forrest gump, indiana jones and finding nemo

See? That's why I stay away from this forum.
You always end up having the Blu-ray mantra regurgitated to you over and over again. Sorry for posting here, bye.
LazerViking 03-02-07, 03:17 AM Sadly, Big Trouble in Little China has not nor will not for awhile see a HD release. However, my favorite movies of last year have all receieved BD/HD-DVD releases. Prestige and Casino Royale recieved BD exclusive releases while Children of Men I will luckily be able to spin in my HD-DVD player in the coming months. Despite the lack of John Carpenter releases, I'm still a happy neutral consumer.
Many of my favorites won't come out until Criterion starts doing HD releases. "Seven Samurai" is at the top of my list (4x3 pillar boxed of course!).
However, there is the imminent release of "Lawrence of Arabia" to look forward to, and "Blade Runner" should be amazing.
Grubert 03-02-07, 05:06 AM Sorry for threadcrapping here, bye.
Fixed. ;)
As to me:
Blade Runner is scheduled for 2007. :D
gand41f 03-02-07, 05:16 AM Blade Runner is scheduled for 2007. :D
I'm eagerly awaiting Blade Runner and Star Wars. The Terminator is already out, but I have the SD version so I won't be buying it yet.... :)
great thread, now if people can stop fighting
gandalf :o
Matt-05 03-02-07, 05:17 AM My all time fav. hasn't been announced yet :(
Can't wait for True Lies to come.....BD exclusive :D
May be a while though.
hassoon 03-02-07, 05:24 AM I'm waiting for Munich :( .
From the looks of things, it doesn't look like this will be released this year...on either format.
TheLion 03-02-07, 05:58 AM Moulin Rouge, Legends of the Fall, Requiem for a Dream -> so in the end it seems I'm Blue and will be a very happy man this year.
Seven Samurai as all time classic.
Paul Clancy 03-02-07, 07:45 AM They're coming starting march13 .....BOND
cawgijoe 03-02-07, 07:57 AM Spiderman and Spiderman 2
Gladiator, Leon, 2001, Last life in the universe, Man on Fire, a few others and a handful of older Kurasawa
None have hit yet... But at least two of them should come this year, so that makes me happy.
Nope, waiting for Kill Bill Vol 2, which probably won't be too long.
nick1091 03-02-07, 10:18 AM Not yet, but hoping New Line gets in gear and puts out Se7en ASAP. Hope springs eternal.
SimpleTheater 03-02-07, 10:26 AM I believe my favorite movie (Conan the Barbarian) is Universal. By the time they release it, I'm betting they'll be format neutral or HD-DVD will be dead. Until then I anxiously await LOTR - extended version. There's no way I can watch the theatrical version and the SD-DVD upscaled will hold me over for years if need be.
SimpleTheater 03-02-07, 10:29 AM Actually my favorite move ever was "It's A Wonderful Life", but I don't feel the need to have it on hi-def.
bassmonkeee 03-02-07, 10:38 AM One of my top favorites, depending on the time of day/location of moon, is Lawrence of Arabia. So, hopefully, I'll be able to answer "yes" to this question soon.....
Ragnarok 03-02-07, 10:41 AM Hell no, Rounders where the f*** are you!!!
PATTON67 03-02-07, 10:57 AM SCARFACE.."Say heeello to my lil friend!!! :p :p :p
But til Universal removes their head from the A** probably wont see for awhile..
sethhobrin 03-02-07, 12:07 PM All LOTR Extended Edition Cuts
All Star Wars
All Harry Potter
Platoon
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill I & II
Starship Troopers(I don't care what you people say that was a good movies!)
OniKoroshi 03-02-07, 12:23 PM Still waiting on Gattaca and Shawshank.
swanlee 03-02-07, 12:39 PM I'm format neutral and my two favorite movies have not appeared yet
A Clockwork Orange
Blade Runner
Most of my other favorites are out on HD-DVD, and Kingdom of Heaven was the main reason I went format neutral. Between the two formats my top ten list should be complete by the end of the year.
Waiting for Gandhi and several Bond Movies.
DavidHir 03-02-07, 12:57 PM My favorite movie of all-time is probably Raiders of the Lost Ark which means I'll be waiting at least several more years for it.
greyrocket 03-02-07, 03:15 PM braveheart and pulp fiction
Mikael S 03-02-07, 05:14 PM Gladiator, LOTR ext. trilogy, Raiders of the lost ark, Face/Off... I want those :-)
My favorite all time movie is
The Shining.
Out in Q4 I believe!
Personally my ultimate title is The shawshank Redemption, although there are several that come VERY close to that.
markenglert 03-02-07, 08:16 PM I hope it doesn't take as long as it did to come out on SD DVD...
ED WOOD.
2husky1 03-02-07, 08:46 PM Waiting patiently for the Matrix trilogy.
Out in Q4 I believe!
Personally my ultimate title is The shawshank Redemption, although there are several that come VERY close to that.
Yes, one of my all-time favorites too. That or Usual Suspects is my favorite. So any idea when Shawshank comes out on Blu-ray?
pedrojunkie 03-02-07, 09:12 PM Howard The Duck, unfortunatly we know how much George Lucas protects his opus' So we will never see that on blu-ray...
Arpeggi 03-02-07, 09:58 PM No, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is not on Blu-ray.
Not yet, but thank goodness Disney is in the Blu-Ray camp! Don't laugh, but my favorite movie of all time is Mary Poppins. As it just had a major release on DVD recently I may have to wait.
Rachael Bellomy 03-02-07, 10:41 PM My favourite film on BD so far is Blazing Saddles and it didn't cost me, "...a s--tload of dimes..."
Perhaps later this year when Fight Club is supposedly being released.
jefe noche 03-03-07, 11:24 AM Se7en and Boogie Nights
Come on New Line....pull your head out.
I need:
Star Wars Ep. 4-6
Indiana Jones 1-3
Lethal Waepon Movies (DC!)
Starhsip Troppers
Robocop (DC!)
Boondock Saints (DC!)
Fight Club
Pulp Fiction
I'm happy that all those comic book movies are coming out because I love them. But Spider-Man 1 and 2around the third movie would be nice...
KidNiki 03-04-07, 07:38 AM Nope, but it will be on HD-DVD in Septmeber! :)
Although the tie for my all time favorite will be out eventually, it stars a certain Bruce Boxlinger. ;)
fleetwoodguy79 03-04-07, 09:20 AM I won't be truely happy until I see Back to the Future in HD!
They keep teasing me with those DirecTV commercials, and MAN it looks like a great transfer!
Other than that, I know Star Trek has been announced for release later this year (big +1!) and I would love to see the new Doctor Who on Blu-ray!
Connavar 03-04-07, 03:23 PM No and it probably won't be a good transfer
Just a few....
Yes:
First Blood
Terminator
Terminator 2 (but need an Ultimate/Extreme edition! :D )
No:
Aliens
Predator
Commando
Empire Strikes Back
The Shining
.
.
.
STEELCHEST 03-04-07, 09:00 PM No...God damnit Universal u stupid fools.
Field of Dreams
theforce8686 03-04-07, 09:20 PM My all time favorite movie..or should I say movies wont be on BD for a while unless Im very lucky as they are Star Wars Episodes I - VI.
lilstinky 03-04-07, 09:50 PM One of my favorites is The Thing which I have for HD-DVD. I'm also wanting Sorcerer(William Friedkin) which is a Universal movie so if it does come it will probably be HD-DVD(this hasn't even gotten the proper transfer on regular dvd yet). Some others I would really like to see are North by Northwest, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Blade Runner. Those three could be Blu-Ray right?
Slacker George 03-04-07, 10:37 PM Actually my favorite move ever was "It's A Wonderful Life", but I don't feel the need to have it on hi-def.Heh, that was my answer as well.
My all time favorite I'd want to see on blu-ray would be either Brazil or Raiders of the Lost Ark.
d0uble0se7en 03-05-07, 12:01 AM Can't wait for these:
Spider-man
Spider-man 2
Die Hard
Moulin Rouge
Titanic
The Naked Gun
Airplane!
Panic Room
Se7en
The Matrix Trilogy
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Incredibles
SC0TLANDF0REVER 03-05-07, 01:46 AM Braveheart
The Matrix (Trilogy)
LoTR
Heat
Fight Club
Se7en
Raising Arizona
The Big Lebowski
Blade Runner
Gladiator
Batman (1989)
Star Wars
... then I would be much happier.
MSmith83 03-05-07, 01:58 AM My three favorite movies of all time are Once Upon a Time in the West, The Wages of Fear, and Chinatown. If any of these movies ever make it to Blu-Ray, I bet it will be a LONG time from now.
So- is your all time fav movie available on Blue Ray yet?
No - Gleaming the Cube has not been released on Blu-ray yet.
UxiSXRD 03-05-07, 02:21 AM I need:
Star Wars 1-6
LOTR EE
Aliens 1- 5
Braveheart
Matrix 1-3
Gladiator
Heat
Ronin
Need Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Fight Club, Scarface.
Any combination of the above will make me go out and buy a BD player...
2009 until North by Northwest hits the market - now that sucks!
Also waiting on:
• Giant
• Rebel Without a Cause
• Vertigo
• To Catch a Thief
• Once Upon a Time in the West
• The Good, Bad and the Ugly
For something of a more recent and mindless vintage, I'll take:
• Hellboy
• Old School
Jiffylush 03-05-07, 01:37 PM Not yet, but thank goodness Disney is in the Blu-Ray camp! Don't laugh, but my favorite movie of all time is Mary Poppins. As it just had a major release on DVD recently I may have to wait.
Hell yes, I am a 33 year old father of two and I freaking LOVE this movie. Soft spot for Sound of Music as well, but this is Julie Andrews at her best. Sometimes I have to talk my daughter (5) into watching it... maybe we will do that tonight!
Love the Pixar films in general, and large numbers of animated Disney. Lilo and Stitch would be beautiful on BD with its beautiful hand-painted backgrounds.
Other favorites:
Bladerunner
Lawrence of Arabia
Indiana Jones and the anything, probably the next one too
Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen (spelling)
lots of others that I won't bore you with
Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen (spelling)
Oh man -- no idea how I forgot that one... Such a great Terry Gilliam movie.
Not sure how it'd end up looking in HD though, but I'd take it regardless!
DVD_sanchez 03-05-07, 01:51 PM The Godfather!
No, it had better be soon and it had better be the Lowry Digital remaster that was worked on but never released!
SamIam2 03-05-07, 02:03 PM Starship Troopers(I don't care what you people say that was a good movies!)
haha ... well to be honest, I thought it was a "fun" movie if one did not examine it too much. I think the general problem is that the movie is such a departure from the book ... that those fans of the novel (myself included) felt a little disoriented upon watching the "adaptation".
As for my favs ...
LOTR
2001
StarWars
Gladiator
Star Trek II Wrath of Khan
GunBuster (recently remastered, but no true High Def)
N.B. Forrest 03-05-07, 03:36 PM No & probably never will be - The Best Years of Our Lives
Cant pick a favorite but I'd buy these 3 unannounced movies.
The Five Heartbeats
Natural Born Killers
Howard the Duck
Eternal_Sunshine 03-07-07, 05:10 AM ...Of The Spotless Mind. Out soon on HD-DVD. Damn you, Universal! :( But I think it has a different distributor in Europe, so there's still hope... ;)
Samfield 03-07-07, 09:00 AM Anxiously waiting for an announcement of "Last of The Mohicans" and "Master and Commander"...I also wouldn't mind "61*" or "Moulin Rouge", either!
Master and Commander" and "Moulin Rouge" would be great!
BOSS10L 03-07-07, 01:02 PM Oh gawd....I can't choose just one title...Here's just a few though (no particular order):
Saving Private Ryan
Band of Brothers
Matrix Trilogy
Star Wars Ep I-VI
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Empire Records (guilty pleasure)
All Pixar releases
Gladiator
Titanic
LOTR Trilogy
Tron
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Batman
And the ones that would truly make the wife happy:
The Lost Boys
The Goonies
I guess if I absolutely, positively had to pick one title, it would probably be....
Metropolis - Fritz Lang version
Tolstoi 03-07-07, 01:21 PM I doubt my preferred movie will be released any time soon in neither HD DVD nor Blu-Ray. It is War and Peace. This movie is around 7 hrs long. And the last release was done in DVD 15 years ago using a 35mm master. If they could re-master this movie from the original 70 mm master that would great.
gashog301 03-07-07, 02:49 PM No, Escape from New York!!!!
