I can't seem to get external speakers to work on my old Misubishi 35" CRT TV. Here's my setup --

CK35FX2 35" CRT Mitsubishi TV. Works great.
Comcast STD Video cable box

The TV has the following A/V connectors:

Video: S-Video and RCA jacks. All of the video signals are working fine

Audio:

TV: Audio Input: 2 sets of RCA jacks (Red and White). One set here is connected to the comcast Audio Out connectors. Audio thru the TV speakers is working fine.

Audio Out: 2 sets of RCA jacks (Red and White). I connect one set of these RCA jacks to the external speakers and get nothing.

There is also a Sub Woofer Out Mono connector. Also a Tuner and Monitor RCA jack.

The speakers are known good (work on my stereo).
The TV has a TV speakers menu setting and when I turn the TV speaker setting to "off", I get no sound from the internal speakers and no sound from external speakers.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Any ideas?

PS: The comcast Audio out (RCA jacks) connects to the Audio In (RCA jacks) on the TV. Works fine. Also, when I connect the audio out from the comcast box directly to the known good speakers, I get nothing. I have tried two different sets of speakers...same results. No sound.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

The Audio Out connectors (red+white) are line-level connections and must be connected to a receiver or amplifier. You can't connect speakers directly to the Audio Outs.

Does your TV have actual speaker outputs (red+black spring connectors)? If not, you would need a receiver something like this to amplify the signal:

Your speakers would then connect to the receiver.

Thank you for the response. As soon as I read your response, I went, "DUH...!" Of course you are right....thanks very much. I'll see if I can find some very inexpensive receiver on eBay that will amplify the signal a bit.

If I do add the amp, I would assume that I would take the audio out connection from the TV, route this to an amp, and take the speaker out connection on the amp to the speakers. Correct?

Correct.
